Default If you recycled your catalytic converters how much were you paid? - A Happy Ending!

The title says it all. I am replacing my cats with an X-pipe, and would like to get an idea of how much I could expect to get for them. TIA!

I would not recycle the Porsche 928 cats they will be very expensive to replace if you want factory cats.
There will be owners that need the factory cats so the car will pass emissions

+1. Please sell them to a fellow 928 owner.

I agree completely, but this unit is completely knackered. Otherwise I would keep it on the car.

What does completely knackered mean? If the catalyst matrix inside the cats is gone or broken you won't get much if anything for them.

The price paid by a recycling company will vary with the market price of the precious metals inside them. Price can fluctuate greatly. There are online places that will give you a quote of what they will pay. Also, call a couple of local metal recycling places to get their quotes. Price will be determined by the size and quality of the cats. OEM cats get a large premium over aftermarket (aftermarket are worth $5-10 vs. OEM that could be $100 or more). Euro get a premium over domestic brands as well. It may be tough to get a good quote since 928 cats are so rare. Most places won't know what they are worth without seeing them in person.

Which is just what I meant by "completely knackered" and your comment re: value is what I have since learned searching the web. The matrix has likely been decorating the Virginia roadside for quite some time now...

so what you have is a set of factory hollowed out cats,
this might be good for someone thats under a visual check like we have in PA.

if it is hollow, then it is worth about $1.
If it is intact and the matrix is OK. Then you could get $80-120 for an early cat.

Cut the dual cat 1985-1995 into two individual cats and you might just get twice the price...since each side is big enough to be one

Although his catalytic converter had seen better days, Bob sold them to the recycler for enough to buy a used, but still serviceable replacement!

And it even came with an O2 sensor!!

Thanks and a tip of the Hatlo hat to all those who remember the Grand Prix Pignatelli, the Cyclops, and Bob's Buick... (not to mention Jimmy Hatlo)

Last one I sold to a local recycler I received $180 bucks for it, I have another one sitting in my scrap pile awaiting me to gather more scrap metals to go.

The ones I take are RUSTED from winter MI salted roads, not worth putting back on a car IMO with broken shielding and other bits.
