does anybody know this 928 ... for sale in Lakeway, TX
Looking for a 928 (to be precise: my 1st 928 ) I came accross this sales ad of a car that obviously has everything I would like.
On the one hand I absolutely like the color combo, on the other hand it has all the goodies ...
here's the link: http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/...8/1818498.html
I already contacted the seller, but no reply yet. So I just wonder if anybody here already know the car, had a look at it or so ...?
Regarding the description it seems to be what I'd be looking for, but I know that sales ads and reallity often don't match.
Any input appreceated

With 175,000 miles on it, that seems like a lot of money for a USA 1980. It is also oddly riding on 15 inch wheels but easier to get tires Also very early car for having side protection strip . If it survived the drive back to California that is a big plus....But no I do not know this car.

I am with Jim - that is a lot of money for a car with 175k on the clock - could be a lot more than that as the odometer gears fail.

I notice the ad says he was going to drive it to Carmel for Werks last month... I did not see this car there. I would have surely remembered it.

I don't know it. Looks like a proper amount of age and use for 175k. Well maintained if the records are right. Lakeway is near Austin, too far for me to go eval. There should be someone in that are that can put eyes on it.

The jump post cover comment is a standard joke here and not a cause for concern about this car. It is cheap plastic part in the engine compartment that is often missing, but makes no difference in car performance..

Just my opinion, but for $15,000 the interior and engine on that car look pretty rough. He says "dash with no cracks or warping" but it is obviously very warped and has a large crack on the pod. Door panels are not too good. Look at the underside of that hood. Going by these pics my 86 must be worth about 30k. I would say to keep hunting.

I noticed some of these things too and was wondering about the price ...
But you know, if there is something you would really like, you tend to get blind for some details
Therefore it's good to have some more pairs of eyes with non-biased guys
Thank you for all your comments

I have seen quite a few 80 to 83 cars with 78 pricing lately. I agree that the market doesn't agree with this pricing currently. With that said, this looks like an honest car. It is a unicorn of sorts, typically we see total wrecks or low mileage preservation cars. Rarely do I see high mileage cars that have simply been used and maintained nicely on the market.
I like this car. I like it a lot more at 9800 dollars

If it's original paint in in decent condition it's likely worth it. Always keep in mind that repaints are a 8-10k proposition (at a minimum) plus at total pain to coordinate and takes 6 months to a year of your life and you are hoping it's as good as the factory offering and then it's still a 'repaint'. Decent paint puts you very far 'ahead' of the game with these cars. The miles here are high but if maintained there is TONS of life left in this one.
I know the '80-'84 cars are considered 'lesser' than the '78-79 but this is a relatively cool car (I actually love the color, and I'm a color guy...makes me think of butterscotch candy...), and the leather dash is luckily a relatively easy repair - certainly easier than finding a NLA '78 or a '79 vinyl dash - just recover it and you are done. May be slightly overpriced but I would say you are not paying too much, just buying too 'early' on the curve. Prices will likely catch up shortly as nice cars seem to be getting fewer and far between. I always say - 'find me another one' when people say something is priced too high. Often difficult to do in the 928 world at a given moment in time. Patience can sometimes yield you a better car at a better price, but overall these things are not getting any cheaper.
