If the seller is the registered owner then I think he can get a replacement title. Kinda suspect he is not, though. Would be a reach as a save, but possible. If it had a title.

I picked up this car today for the advertised $500.

Thanks to the original poster UNEEKONE for the link...I regularly troll SF bay classifieds...but not last night. Thanks to Colin and Jeff for the help loading it up today.

Heres info, not many options, but the right ones!

1981
C03
G00000

M197- Stronger battery (88 Ah)
M220 - LSD
M261- Outside mirror - plain-Passenger's side, electrically adjustable and heatable
I471- Integrated rear spoiler (Competition Group option or Sport group 1 )
M650- Sunroof

Car is not horrible, but the interior is rough with some mildew/mold. missing some things.

exterior is straight but there are small issues all over. Sunroof partly open, motor is missing.

Looks to be complete and original otherwise.

Owner said he drove it two years ago and owned about 6.

Im going to investigate getting it started first before I attempt to part it.

parts list found on floor...

Nice score! Leather dash does not seem all that bad and neither does the rt rear quarter panel. 5 spd and LSD is worth many times more than the $500. Are those 944 15" phone dials?

Congratulations!

Looks like early sport seats. Was this a competition package perhaps?

I now give up my title as 'chief bottom feeder'. It was a good run, but hard to top a full 928 plus 5 sp for $500. As long as the sheriff doesn't come looking for you, nicely bought.

Don't quote me on this, but the competition group might also include those sport seats, 16" phone dials, possibly tighter suspension and even a heavy sway bar? I'm no expert of course.
