I'll guess about 15%. I like the early 86's better though. Less weight.

Funny the old guy did a doughnut in it. Limited slip, or no? These cars have some kind of magic that lets them do wicked power slides without 'em. Only if you give it juuust the right amount of gas, though. Otherwise the inside wheel just spins up and nothing much happens.

Don't worry, though. It's not scary. It gets a little bit sideways easily, but also recovers more sweetly than any car I've ever driven.

I somewhat disagree, don't undersell it Jeremy, these things are fantastic in the early body form with the 32V engine. Superior intake and camshafts from early S4 5 speeds. Yours also looks great in the avatar, nice shine.

Its head and shoulders above all the earlier 16V cars in my view, including the pre 85 Euros. The Euro hp rating includes the fact that they had no cats when measured. With any wear, that early 5 speed is a real PITA, too, compared the later model unit that is mated to the 85 up cars.

I've driven the S4 5 speed, Jim Doerr's Perl white car, and as strong as it is, and well put together, the S4 has a certain overall heaviness to me.

It is surprising to see 911 guys reaching into the shark tank, wanting to find a low miles, clean 928. I think both your cars are gold to the new enthusiast.

The beauty of the OP's car is the apparent low-miles honesty.

BTW, I have those same optional BBS on a chestnut brown car, don't let anybody talk you out of those wheels.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love the hell out of it. There are just some public perception issues that unfairly hold it back vs the other cars.

I think the market is warming to the S3 some. I think when I first checked prices a little over a year ago, the 80-84 US cars were more highly valued. Now the S3's have surpassed them.

Just decoded the tires, originals from 86! Crazy, I'm going to get new ones and keep the old. Checkout the pedals, they look cosistent with 28k to me

Btw I never noticed that the pedals say "928" on them until I was staring at them with my dash out the other day. Pretty cool!

Do the wheels have value? I just put brand new tires on them today so no plans on taking them off

Based on the positive feedback I'm getting on the BBS wheels on my car, which are a perfect compliment to the dark brown finish of the car itself, I'd say yes. It brings a nostalgic / period look to the car that some folks seem to respond to. if you are asking about cash value, not much, at least lately.

Few of the enthusiasts here like them, instead they like modernizing the cars. There seems to be greater inherent value in that concept. Appeals to more folks.

Shifting topics for a moment, from my perspective, tire size is more important. Specifically sidewall height. Driving these cars every day, I'll never again roll with 17s, 18s or 19s on the car on the road. Changes the feel too much. Rough riding. its a GT car. I use it that way. If the BBS were 17 or 18, they'd also be gone. If I want a flat cornering sports car to play boy-racer on the road, I'll go buy one, not convert the 928. BTDT.

Default What's the value of this car?

Did you ever verify that the odometer works yet, by driving it. The way the trip meter is nearly "zeroed out" makes me think it doesn't. When I broke my odometer last month...(why they put the fog light switch just above the trip meter reset...I'll never know...lol) the trip meter looked the same way.

A few things jump out at me...the left rear tire looks might thin on tread...for a tire that has 28K. Clutch pedal is missing the nub on the 2 portion of the pad and the edges look well rounded on the rest of the nubs.

Without a documented history of this cars mileage and care, value is a tough figure to put your finger on. The PO's word of mouth description of what took place during the cars life, to be perfectly blunt, is not enough.

Pictures of the bottom side, engine compartment, interior and exterior would need to back up his claims.

Not trying to "burst your bubble" or nothing...just being realistic...since you asked about value a couple times within this topic and you say you bought it as an investment. So, validating mileage, maintenance, condition supporting PO claims will mean all of the difference in the world in the cars value.

We all hope you found yourself a treasure, but certain measures have to be taken to secure this notion.

Brian.

Engine bay pics will at least answer the question "Is it possible that this is a <30k mile car?"

That spot in the pod is supposed to be for rear fog lights, with the trip rest button under the dash. Since we don't get rear fogs in the states, that would have been too prominent of a spot to have a blank switch, so....

ODO works, I have service records, and also spoke with the 2nd owner that had the car since 1991, he stored this car at his florida vacation home and only used it when he was there. I just installed new tires and kept the originals that were date coded to 1987, rear tires were low, The car has Limited slip option so I'm guessing some wheel spin was the culprit.

I was poking around the engine bay and it is very clean, I doubt it has ever been pressure washed or anything. the gold plating on some of the metal items is still like it was from new, but dirty. Is this what you look for? if not what would it be? Will get engine pics soon.

Wouldn't hurt to get some provenance from the prev owners like a statement about where it was kept, and accounting for low annual mileage. Now is the time, it may be useful later. Just a statement with a signature and the VIN on it will do.

If the BBS wheels were installed by the dealer, better to keep them. Part of the provenance. Not my favorite wheel, but it has history and is part of your car now.
