Hi everyone,
I just bought a 79 5 speed that has been sitting for 10 years in a garage. Previous owner said he parked it because the clutch master went bad and needed replacement. He had other vehicles and didn't want to pay to have it replaced but tried to replace it himself but he was in his sixties and gave up doing it himself since he said he had trouble getting down under the dash at his age. He claimed he was starting it for regularly for about 6 years until he went on vacation and came back to a dead battery and didn't want to buy a new one so it sat from then on.
The interior isn't too bad. Dash cracks of course, the leather is a bit dry and it's dusty. A very good cleaning is in order.
So far I've taken the air metering device (?) off, the air distributor, and the soft fuel lines. Soft fuel lines will be replaced and the engine cleaned as well as I can with it in place. The plan is to get it started and see how it runs and go from there.

Interior.
The carpet is missing from the driver's foot well I assume in the PO's attempt to replace the clutch master, which is still bolted in the car.
I don't know what the switch between the window switches is supposed to operate. I'm pretty sure it wasn't installed by the factory.

Engine.
I removed the fuel/air system to clean and removed the soft lines to replace. I don't think the factory installed that Prestone cap thing in the middle of a water hose, not sure about the electric fan in front either, maybe that's what the switch is supposed to control. I'll be looking into the Freeze 12 conversion at some point too.
I scraped off the hood insulation since it was really dry and just flaking off all over the engine.

Welcome aboard! Looks similar to what I started with. Now with about 10k into mine and 3 years, it's...well....about the same
Check out my 79 5spd save thread as I have attempted to tackle many of the same jobs

I have a 79 as well
You have a lot of work - but they aren't bad cars to work on if you enjoy doing it. The orange switch in the center console, most likely goes to the aftermarket electric fan in your pictures up front. Look for wires coming off of it and running down the fender to the fire wall. Good luck and a great deal of good folks on here ----with a lot of knowledge.

Welcome to the '78 projects boat that I and several others are in here on rennlist. I have my '78 5spd still on the lift with the the engine completely disassembled and front suspension removed. Working on these can be a slippery slope into a rabbit hole pretty fast. Be patient and read, read, read!
Congratulations. I feel that it will all payoff for all of us in the far future, not money, just satisfaction.

Congratulations on your new ownership. You have a lot to work on, so I hope you and your wallet enjoy it. My suggestion before anything else. Tippy-Top priority. Most important of all.....Get rid of that rear spoiler! It doesn't belong on that car!

Word! The car will look worlds better with the nice, neat rear end that Tony Lapine and Wolfgang Möbius originally designed.
I love the patina on the paint!
