Default Manual Torque Tube Differences

And the slippery slope continues.......

I am considering having my torque tube rebuilt while the engine is out. The car has 72k and no noise in the tube but its so easy to get to at the moment.

Is there a difference between 79 and 81 tubes? I was considering sending my 81 tube for rebuild and simply swap it with the 79, however PET shows a difference. Any idea what the difference is?

Where does it end

Hi Guy,

IIRC, overall length is different between the two, and attachment to the battery box for vibration attenuation in the earlier version.

You can check your 81 TT against the one in your 79 to make sure.

78-79 5-speed TT is an inch longer, 1445 mm vs 1420 for the 80-95 5-speed tube. Not sure about the Rogerbox tubes.

very early 78 has no mount for the front shift rod guide (it attaches to the body) and some 1980s those with 03 trans use the longer tube....
