Default Newbie's 1st post - anybody here from Dallas, TX ...?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here. I just tried to read everything I should do before my 1st post ... man that was tough ... english is a foreign language for me

Anyhow, let me introduce myself with a few words. My name is Wolfgang, I'm a 46 years old IT guy from Tirol / Austria / Europe. In real life as well as at all online activities my nickname is Gustl - for more than 25 years now.
For about 20 years I'm a Porsche 914 Freak / owner / historian, but now I want a more comfortable car, and I decided to get me a 928. After screening the market in Europe for almost one year, I decided to look internationally.

Currently there is an Euro 928 for sale on eBay, that would meet all my wishes. It didn't sell the 1st and 2nd time, and I doubt that it will sell this time. I already contacted the seller, but his answer wasn't very helpful.
So I wonder if anybody here already knows the car, or is close enaugh to take an eye on it ...?
here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/142065758892
The whole shipping thing, import taxes and customs fees are really expensive, so I would want to know if the car is worth all the efford.

Any help would be highly appreceated.

Thank you in advance,
Gustl

Good luck with the search! Unfortunately, I am close but not close enough to help. From my house to Dallas is roughly 5 hrs and I don't have plans to travel there until November.

There's about a billion of us 928'ers in Dallas area. Plenty of people to help you put eyes on it, and we have a ex-Brit here who can help with export to EU. I can drive it to Galveston port if you buy it.

You are in good hands. Oh - and your English grammar is near flawless. Willkommen

There's a very nice "79" on the Houston Craigslist. Beautiful color.

Good luck

Let's keep it simple then. How would you like to proceed? I'm interested in seeing the car, and I can go over there on Monday. I will inquire, take pictures, run the car, and do a general check out. We can exchange emails and if there is something special you need let me know. Roger at 928sRUS near Dallas is your best bet for helping with export as he has some experience.

As for getting it to a port, I can do that in Aug depending on when the shipping needs it. My son lives in Houston nearby and can get me back home from the port.

OK boys and girls the car is my avatar is the car being talked about. I bought it earlier this year sent it to Dallas. It is a vary straight original Euro S 5 speed with no sunroof. Paint is good overall with small stone chips on mirrors etc. The seat inserts (originally fabric) were replaced but slightly off color was fitted. The transmission shifts great car runs and drives well. Very solid example of the Euro S. I have driven this car myself and even considered driving it from Costa Mesa to Dallas but the A/C was not working So shipped it along with another load of cars.
The seller of the car was unable to register it in California had sold his home in Costa Mesa and did not have garage space so reluctantly had to sell the car to someone who could take it out of California. So it has the correct S engine code looks good drives well, if it could have been registered in California I would have kept it !!!!
Jeff and Meggan if it does not hit their reserve will just keep it in their collection at some point put in fabric seat inserts and take it to a Barrett Jackson auction. far better than having money in the bank.

You 'sent' it to Dallas. Is it a consignment from you?

Too bad we now have 'personalities' involved in the deal. oh well, I will do my part.

I often buy cars for Jeff and Meggan which go to their business Flat 12 Gallery in Texas. They own this 928. With 11,000 sq ft of space they have lots of room for their collection.

I'm guessing you don't want to share what they are into it.

Nope, since it does not matter....all that matters is what it sells for. That is ultimately what it is "worth".

Thank you for the additional info James. As of now, I am the current high bidder on this car. On 7/15 and 7/22 reserve(s) were not met at $ 10,300 & $ 12,500 respectively. That said, car has been on eBay for almost 3 weeks now. If relisting on eBay again in 4 days at auctions end, maybe a "Buy it Now" price along with " Best Offer" would be considered ? T
