Default Options for replacement air intake hose on '78

I'm sure there must be an answer(s) already posted but my search effort has failed.

I need to replace the deteriorated black hose feeding the air cleaner. I understand original is NLA. What have other OB owners used?

Jim Doerr has an outstanding reproduction now, not sure if he's got any in stock but you can contact him.

3" high-temp brake duct might work. Measure the ports.

4 total of these with a connector sleeve each side. Worked on my '88 S4 & '86.5

Here you go:

The thread title was changed by the mods to 85-86 because I put these on my 86. Probably why you didn't find it. The end result really does look like the original OB tubes.

Thank you all very much. Otto's tubes look like the way to go.

Hi Jim, I received your email but figured it just as easy to reply here.

The OE-type early intake tubes is an active project. Just yesterday matter of fact, we cut 80' of tubing and made two working prototypes (Thanks Dean S. for coming up to help out!!). Biggest challenge in the project so far was producing the rubber sleeves.

First proof-of-concept re-used sleeves from the late model plastic tubes, which is not acceptable for retail.

These will come available in the future, targeting Fall sometime after our move back to Michigan.

Sold as a pair, plug and play, $250 retail
(I'm not selling anything here, so I believe it's acceptable for me to post this).

^^ that's a better price than what Porsche wants for their later tubes. I'm sure more than just 78-80 MY will be rocking these in the future. They look fantastic.

Here is an inexpensive option for replacing the air duct

Amazon Amazon

I just punched a hole in the accordion at the right place for the timing belt cover, although you could buy four and make an adapter, sort of like Eplebnista did here:

We have the "Mercedes" ducts and the center join is available in red, black or blue - $115 the pair. Fit 78 to 95 apart from 32v 85/86 cars.

I used a near identical piece of tubing meant for eberspacher heating and ventilation in mobile homes. Same diameter same material. Just cut the right length and put the old sleeve with the hole over it.
