Seeing the tag-team of Sean, Pete and Stan diagnose ( and somehow FIX ) a broken 83 distributor was worth the trip.

It was a breakdown none of us had seen before.

Just walked in and got on here to post...

First Frenzy and Best Road Trip EVER in the 928!

Car made it flawlessly through the 1638 miles round trip. The level of organization at this event (especially considering the numbers of cars and people) was simply incredible!!!!!

I feel like I won the grand prize because I DID get to drive my 928 the furthest and the award is a great memory for me!

The Franklin Park setting was awesome and I cannot thank Stan enough for choosing to use my car as the hood alignment example (after this post I am going out to fix my hatch release ).

It was a great Fun Run route that took in lots of scenery I just wouldn't have imagined...

...and it was nice to end the fun run at Octoberfest in Lovettsville!

Seeing Stan, Sean and Pete provide advice and hands on help to others was really great, too!

So glad Shawn Stafford and Alex (Majestic Moose's) cars got home under their own power.

These pictures are just a small sampling of the awesome memories this event created; if you're reading this and have never been, I would simply challenge you to make the effort to get there next time...maybe you'll beat me for the long distance award

What a great event put on by Greg and all the dedicated volunteers and VERY SUPPORTIVE sponsors!

Frenzy is going permanently on my calendar.

The use of GroupMe and Glympse were also equally genius (thanks Steven and Shawn!)

As a newcomer on the scene and first time attendee I was impressed of what a tight and welcoming community this is.

For those who weren't there, I supplied the 20th annual 928 Frenzy "non-start late night tech session car" The trouble started about 30 miles before reaching the hotel, the engine started misfiring. It felt as if only four cylinders were firing. We hit some traffic and I had to pull over as I could not keep it running in the stop and go. We didn't find anything obvious and when traffic lightened I was able to limp it into destination.

Although I underwent a near total overhaul of my car this summer, the odds are that out of 40+ classic cars someone is bound to break down and I was the lucky winner - lucky because we had in our presence some of the most well respected and experienced 928 experts in the world. I could not have broken down in a better place.

As we went through the list of possibilities we found my 'green wire' plastic connectors were totally decomposed to pieces. Thanks to Greg with the early black '78 who had a good used replacement! After that it was still misfiring like crazy and finally would not fire at all. This was all Saturday night.

So Sunday night the best guesses were either bad computer or coil. Thanks to Mr. '83 Coral Red who let me swap in my parts on his car to confirm that they were OK. Sorry I forgot your name but you're the man! I would have had to leave my car there for a week while waiting for replacement parts that would not have fixed it anyway. Without ruling those two components out I don't think we would have pushed further. At this point I was stumped and I stood back a moment and saw Sean in the front and Stan checking grounds in the rear, both had a huge entourage, I hope someone got a picture of this!

Finally they are looking at the distributor again and I believe it was Stan that discovered the reluctor wheel could spin freely on the shaft and found the roll pin stuck to the magnet. I heard he knocked it back in place on top of a garbage can with a rock and was so confident he buttoned everything back up before I tried cranking it over. Talk about some wizardry from Mr Merlin! Sure enough it fired right up on all eight!

We can all add this one to our troubleshooting list, at least for the single distributor 16v cars.

Special thanks to Stan, Sean, Roger, Christoff, Shawn for their help and about four dozen others who supplied technical knowledge, tools, flashlights, and even a word of encouragement.

Thanks to Greg Nichols and others for organizing this great event, sorry I had to bail out on getting the sodas for lunch at the park. Also Bruce Bade leading us out to Summit Point. Oh and Jon letting me ride with him in his 911, almost as good as a 928

Thanks everyone, sign me up for Frenzy 21!

Well put and an accurate description for sure.

A short panoramic video showing the midway meeting/regrouping point in Uppersville, VA during the Fun Run:

You forgot Pete. I think he was the one who kept saying it is the distributor.
Had a great time. Thanks to Greg and all the people organizing and attending.

All Frenzies are awesome, but some Frenzies are more awesome than others.

Frenzy 20 was epic - so many wonderful cars, so many great old and new friends.

A huge thank you to Greg for his time, effort and dedication.
