Smile A very quick special thank you to Andy Kay and Gerald Finden

I just wanted to take a moment and thank Andy and Gerald for their help in getting my car to a level that makes me very happy.

First off to Andy Kay who is an extremely talented detailer and I have nothing but massive respect for watching the man work and the attention to detail that he has.

Many thanks to him for convincing me to purchase Griot's products, orbital buffer, micro fiber cloths, and other items that have enabled me to detail my car. I am NO WHERE NEAR his level, but am trying to do the best I can.

I thank him very much for his encouragement and advice that have inspired me to increase my knowledge and ability to detail my own car. (it is really a pain to have to use the Qtips to get the trim and molding (like around the sunroof and also the toothpics for getting the excess wax and detritus out of the crevices).

You cannot bring cars to his level of beauty without having an extreme amount of passion for what you do...

Individuals like him that are extremely talented and do not mind you watching them work because they know how hard it is to achieve that level of perfection... it's like watching Rembrandt sketch...the man has won the LAST 9 YEARS IN A ROW AND COUNTING! for the Regional PCA Concourse...he is truly a Master...

Thank you very much also to Gerald for letting me know where to find the PORSCHE decals for my rear bumper. The decals had 30 yrs of wear and replacing them made an eye-popping difference!

I am truly blessed to be right smack dab in the middle of a great 928 community here in Dallas!

Frank

Which pad did you use for your orbital buffer? My F.I.L. gave me one this week, and am not sure what to get to cover it.

The car looks great, btw!

A very quick special thank you
Man, I'd hate to see if you were going to do an extremely lengthy one...lol.

But, all joking aside...your car looks fantastic!

skpyle- Thank you! Cheers to a fellow Guards Red 928 fan! I enjoy your posts and admire the way that you are giving back to the community by sharing the work in progress!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Itoolio- I use a soft foam cover on the orbital buffer when applying the wax. When I was in the Army we used wet baby diapers dipped in cold water to buff out to a mirror shine. I use a small bowl filled with filtered water from the fridge with some ice cubes added for cold water and use a baby diaper dip in the cold water and buff out. The cold water helps harden the wax to compress it and make it more durable, IIRC. All I know is that is the technique we used in the Army to get mirror shines on our boots and the same process I am using on my car.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

crushingday- Thanks to Andy's suggestions, I have been stocking up on Griot's products from the local O'Reilly's which stocks them.

Initial Wash- Warm filtered water in 2 gallon bucket with 1 oz of Griot's Brilliant finish Car Wash (pink fluid)
Initial Rinse- Warm water in 2 gallon bucket with filtered water and cotton mitt.
Meguiar's Clay Bar System- to clean off imperfections. When using clay bar (with the Speed Shine to keep the surface lubricated) keep softly going over until it feels smooth. DO NOT leave clay sitting for any length of time or clay will adhere to surface...
Griot's Best of Show Wax- Do first coat. Left on for 4 hrs. Did second coat left on for 12 hrs (applied on top of first coat).
Filled bowl with cold filtered water with ice cubes. Used baby diapers and had flashbacks of buffing my Army boots, LOL
Followed up with Griot's Speed Shine.

Used Griot's Black Shine on tires after cleaning them. Don't buff out and it leaves a great shine!
FW1 Cleaning Wax used on black trim such as the black spoilers, mirror trim, window trim etc. Used Q tips to get sunroof, areas around paint etc.

Griot's Leather 3-in-1 for the leather. Lots and lots of leather in the 928

It takes a LOT of time, but man is it worth it!
Love the thumbs up I am constantly getting.

Very glad I keep it in the garage which means it is not exposed to the elements and I can take breaks while I do it. Pretty much a 3 day process...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tomcmets- Thank you very much for the compliment. Loved us taking turns in the lead and seeing each others cars from different angles on our BBQ road trip several weeks back. Good times! Always had massive respect for the 911 and love the color combo (Guards Red/Beige)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Deputy- You may find this hard to believe...but I am not known for my brevity!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tom in Austin- Your car looks absolutely beautiful!
Andy Kay is truly a Master.
There is a reason he has won the PCA Regional Concourse 9 years in a row (and counting).

Some things in life you just sit back and admire...
Michael Jordan dunking.
Ayrton Senna driving a pole lap around Monaco.
Andy Kay detailing a Porsche to the nth degree.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THANKS AGAIN everyone for the warm compliments!

To receive such accolades and thumbs up from the cogniscenti is truly humbling after all the hours and hours of hard work.

Much appreciated!

Frank

I appreciate that. I served as my father and uncle did before me...Here's some pics from some of my border patrols during my tour over there from 85-88 in E Trp, 2/2 ACR...
