New Jager GT Style Shifter Handle Install
Hello Gentlemen,
On my day off, I was able to install the new Jager shift handle I ordered.
The Red Witch already had a Jager GTS Chrome Tip Shifter - Red, and black leather short shifter boot, installed in mid-2002. I liked the way it felt and worked. However, I was not a fan of the red leather on the shift handle.
So...I ordered a new Jager GT Style Shifter Handle, carbon fiber top, black leather, and black base. To go with it, I ordered a new black leather short shifter boot with contrasting red stitching.
Install was easy-peasy. Worst part was fitting the leather shift boot around the aperature at the shift gate. I ended up keeping the aluminum button from the earlier shift handle.
I am selling the earlier shift handle and boot, will have them with me at SITM.
Photos tell the tale:
Bare shifter lever.
Old vs new.
Slight design differences between the old and the new.
Boot first.
Almost forgot the sealing cap.
It took me a few tries to get the leather seated on the top sealing cap and the lower shift gate aperature.
Oooo...carbon fiber.
I am much happier with this!
Happy motoring!

jwyatt8171: That would be the 'full leather boot.' I'm OK with the short boot and the ribbed plastic slider. I have no illusions or pretenses of this being a manual.
It is a Mercedes 4spd automatic. I like it.
Imo000: Came with the car. I've not bothered to go look for a different one yet.
Thanks, it turned out better than I expected.
Cosmo Kramer: Thank you! I am very pleased with the new shift handle. It flows better with the console. I am not throwing rocks at the PO. I just didn't like the red and chrome.

Oh, now I understand. It has not occurred to me to take the glovebox key off. The other key is a house key. Kinda important. The spare door/ignition key is hanging in my work shop. I am looking at having a couple more cut to have on hand.
Good point.
