What are you hoping to affect or improve with a different brake fluid?

I use Valvoline DOT 4 synthetic, used it for years, no problems. It's cheap and readily available, I change it regularly with a pressure bleeder and use it liberally when I do.

I've used it lots. It's a good fluid.

So is canola oil, for a clutch and it's heavy heavy heavy duty requirements.

Would make sense to use canola, especially with a higher flash temp than, say, olive oil. Peanut oil might be the safest food-product oil to use in a "clutch".

But... On the 928 the clutch fluid shares the reservoir with the brake system. No way to keep the peanut oil out of the brakes. ;( So best to use the appropriate brake fluid, and let the clutch enjoy the unused benefits.

Shopping online at places like Amazon. the Valvoline fluid doesn't show up, but the Pentosin and Motul fluids do. That may be the reason the question came up. Meanwhile, a casual drive to the local parts place this morning netted me quarts of the Valvoline Synthetic DOT4 fluid for $8/qt. Instant gratification! The 928 and the Honda DD are both due.

Careful what you say.

When I was stationed in Germany, we had some young kid complaining that his brakes were squealing. Some smart *** told him that they just needed to be oiled. We later found him out in the parking lot squirting oil on his rotors....

I remember doing a bit of system "recovery" on a friend's car after he used water to get the clutch to work. He took the "hydro" from "hydraulic" literally. Fortunately, the car froze overnight shortly after, and the master and slave both ruptured. And the steel line was short enough and easy to duplicate. Mazda RX-3, so parts were cheap too. The right fluid would have been a LOT cheaper.
