Instead of talking about what's not going to happen, let's talk about the slick Panamera Concept Wagon that's finally coming to the US. http://jalopnik.com/porsche-will-bri...ica-1774218807 T

Indeed the Euro 4dr is Zyclamrot Metalik. The only other 928 painted that color besides El Guapo, my previous car.

I will own one of these someday. To me, this is what the Panamera should have looked like from the beginning. With the demise of the BMW 5 series wagon here in the U.S. (Mrs. S4ordie's present DD and favorite all time car (2006 530xi) there is a gap to be filled. Other than a Volvo XC70, and MB wagon, no likey - ugly, there are no full size wagons that are interesting to drive and are big enough.

I've been eyeballing that Pano Wagon concept since 2012. It will be Tambra's next car, she just doesn't know it yet T

Yeah, miss my 525iT. That's the first Panamera variant that appeals at all. Maybe when they come off lease in 5 years- what could possibly go wrong?

Answering my own question, Wikipedia says the 928 was designed first, so it seems it really was a clean sheet design.
Good discussion on this over here

There are many "spy shots" of the Panamera "wagon" on the Interwebs, and many enthusiasts have gone crazy over them.

But if you look closely, you can see that the shape of the door window frames doesn't follow the roof line, that there is a tiny step in the roof, and that the rear window doesn't look right.

It's because there is no prototype on the road right now that is a Panamera "wagon". They are regular Panameras (not sure how many) with a cover to resemble the "wagon" shape. The cover is weighted to match a potential "wagon".

These cars are used for testing the effect of the shape and extra weight on handling and aerodynamics in the real world.

Of course, I don't know anything... A little bird tweeted this into my ear.

After all, we've all seen the 'new 718', yes?

Historical integrity.
Porsche.
Rarely overlapping, in the 21st Century.
More memory than imagination.

I really think that the "718" designation for the new Boxster and Cayman is stupid. There is no connection between a nice racing car of the 50's and a brand new road car.

A hacked up Panamera coupe is hardly the same thing.

No it isn't.

A 4-door sedan is not the modern day GT the 928 was.
Porsche discussed making a four-door version of the 928 in the 1970's. The Panamera is just that - the four-door, front-engine, hatchback RWD V8 sports car. Instead of reviving the 928 first, they went forth with the sedan version, now back to the coupe. End of story.

Default 928 revival?

http://www.beyond.ca/could-this-be-a-porsche-928-revival/57033.html With the recent revival of the old 718 moniker from Porsche, it’s stirred up a lot of rumors that Porsche might bring back the 928 name in a modern day vehicle. The rumor mill even went so far to speculate that a new 928 could potentially be based on a shorter bodied Panamera. So when photos of a shortened Panamera was actually spied, it really got the whispers turned up a notch.

Although the spy photos show a four door body styling, Porsche concept vehicles have been known to be extremely deceptive to hide the true identity of the test vehicle. The probability that this is a 928 test car is unknown. It might even be just a short Panamera, which at one time was rumored to be the Pajun. Again, there’s no official word either way. What we do know is Porsche has something up their sleeves and we can’t wait to hear what it is.

What exactly is the point here?

Porsche can use whatever three-digit designation they choose.

If they call a front-engined, V8, two-door GT car a 928 then I'll say "it's the new 928." Otherwise, it's something else.

They're not teasing me.

Just..people that want teased.

There will be no new 928.

The performance 2dr is a 911, or variant.

The performance sedan will be a 4dr, and it's called the Panamera.

Default Internet confirms new 928

Found this link on the internet so it must be true! I know that a new V8 coupe has been rumored for a while, only time will tell whether or not it is actually called a 928
