Default Looking for short shift kit

Does anyone have a Lizard or Jadz short shift kit they are willing to sell, or instructions for DIY?

I had the 928MS kit before switching to my 6-speed Z06 trans and liked it quite a bit. I also had their Precision Rear Shifter Coupling & their Precision Shifter Ball Cup. The 3 of those things combined made for very precise shifting with good action. I've sold the SSK but still have the Coupling & Ball Cup for sale in my 928 parts ad ($175 for the pair). Here are pics, a link to the ad, and links to the parts on the 928MS site. Let me know if you're interested.

I have not, but there is way too much slop in my current setup, at least 2 inches of play up/down and side/side when in gear.

Do you think replacing those 2 parts, without a SSK, would tighten up the slop in my shifter?

Search around. You can make a shorter shifter to your liking with a hacksaw. The "short shifters" sold commercially have the pivot points moved apart in addition to being shorter. It's more "precise" but also more touchy. The "Broom handle" that they did stock is too long and looks silly, frankly.

Tightening up the linkages is another issue. When you've got the handle out it'd be a good time to replace the nylon bushes. Looseness is usually at the front cup or rear coupler.

By the front cup, do you mean the one below the shifter on the tube, or the one on the bellhousing/back of engine? I've changed the one on the engine in my last 5-speed and I hope to never, ever have to do that job again.

I mean the cup at the back of the bellhousing. It's actually on the front end of the torque tube. Agreed: Huge PITA to do.

It will help a lot. These 2 parts only have about 1,500 miles on them as they were installed prior to me finishing the interior of the car so it was torn apart for most of the time they were installed. Once I got everything back together, I drove it up to WI where 928MS did the Z06 upgrade. My wanting to go with the Z06 was to get gear ratios better matched to the performance available from the Stage 2 supercharger, and because the synchros in the original transmission were worn to the point that upshifts had to be done very slowly and downshifts required double-clutching to avoid grinding the gears. This made the car much slower and less enjoyable to drive, so I solved a number of preference and performance issues with the change.

Check out the links on the website to see what Carl says about those parts. There are also some DIYs in the forum on how to go about installing them with some tricks.

My Son just did this change out with the 928MS front and rear linkages as pictured above. The front ball cup wasn't too bad when he took it off but the rear linkage was like a wet noodle. Those rear bushing were completely shot.

Now the slop is just plain gone.

And agree whole heartily that changing out the front assembly is a total PITA! Definitely a right of passage to owning a 928.

T,
I seem to remember Herman telling me that he replaced the Lizard shifter with something else. But WTH, I've slept since then.

I have the perfex mfg. ssk on both of my 928s. Quite happy with them, but if you got slop, you will probably need to replace the front ball cup, and rear bushings....the lizard kit will eliminate the front ball cup, and is a very wise choice. Roger at 928s r us sells lizards, I believe.
