1983 928 S restoration
I started taking my 1983 928's drivetrain apart at the beginning of this week. I have a 2 post Lift that doesn't go all the way up so my work underneath is in a seating position Max. decided to move the engine first and then drop the rear end. while I'm preparing to remove engine according to the procedure at the workshop manual I download I sew the manual as two procedures for that matter. one involve a 16V engine and manual trans and the other is for 32V 85-86 auto trans. so I took from each procedure what's relevant for me, and activate some logic saying that all that connects the body to the engine should be disconnected. dropped the A/C and air pump (well there was no air pump just a dummy pulley), Rad and fan, coil and steering fluid reservoir . starter. disconnected the plug for engine harness and a + cable which outer shell fall apart. removed bell housing cover. finally seeing the pressure plate and driveshaft connected to it. look nice. look at the rear end of TT. there is a Hole there that I can see the bearing right blocking half of it. probably will need a rebuilt on that. find it hard to take of bolts from pressure plate .I want to torn it so I have access to all 6 bolts but it doesn't torn. also when to separate the 2 half's of bell housing (engine side and TT side)? and when do I get to the engine Mounts?

rear TT coupler and progress with presure plate disconect
Here is the coupler and the bearing next to him. definitely will need a rebuild.
and Halleluiah my engine is disconnected from driveshaft. using small 13 mm wrench. a bit PITA but it worked.
next is engine removal and rear a/t with suspension an TT.

Lemme take a shot at a few things....
Four bolts hold the bellhousing to the engine. Two are best gotten from above and the bolts face the firewall and two are gotten from below with heads facing the other way. Easier to get those apart than to do the TT to bellhousing bolts. If you need to separate the TT then drop the whole drivetrain and do the work with it removed.
Engine mounts are available from all part suppliers.
Looks like the TT bearing has walked back and into the coupler. You'll need to force that bearing forwards. You can also separate the TT from the transmission and then add a gap there. The shaft moves easily inside the TT bearings. This'll pull the bearing forwards with TT's big tube.
The sunroof delete requires a roof from a non-sunroof car to be welded in. That's a lot of work.
Looks like fun.

completely striped for the best restoration results. I'm changing color so all white need to be removed. I don't have here a dipping service so... hard work ahead of me.

what you see next to the coupler is NOT A BEARING...but the cast iron rubber mounted harmonic damper....it does not touch the driveshaft at all. GT cars deleted it to save weight
