Default Speakers

Searched a bit but did not find any recommendations for oe looking speakers for an 89. I'd like to keep it as simple as possible and want door and rear speakers that improve things but without straying from what came originally. I have a CD2 with what I believe is the original amp and wiring. Thoughts?

Have you thought to refoam the speakers? I have done this and has worked out quite well. Keeps everything stock.

Springfield Speaker sells the foam and kit to reglue.

You might check with Hans to see if has any more of his door speakers. They are exact-fit replacements and sound incredible

If you replace your rear bass speakers and are looking to unload the originals, I'll be happy to take them off your hands. Thanks.

How is the sound quality on the refoamed speakers?

If the job is done correctly, no change. Some audiophiles will claim if the surround material is not 100% the same as the original the dynamics of the speaker is different effecting the sound. I don't think the OEM sound system of the 928 is up to par for that kind of scrutiny though.

I have a pair of vintage Infinity Kappa tower speakers, sent the subs in for re-foaming and they perform as new.

This is the place I sent them too, it looks like they no longer offer the service, just the DIY kits:

I'm lucky all the speakers in my 87 perform flawlessly. The foam surrounds are in tact and subtle. Now I'm on the fence of carefully packaging them up and installing aftermarket just to save them.
I'm pleasantly surprised how good the original system sounds.
