Best technique and paint for painting intake crest?
Its time to touch up the crest on my intake and was wondering the best technique and paint.
Flat black or satin? Paint pens or fine model paint brushes? Lastly paint the whole thing black and polish the paint off the raised surfaces or using the pen and/or brush just try to repaint the portions that were originally black?
Thanks.

First I would strip it chemically then mask around it and spray paint the whole crest. Then, with a block that I had glued something like felt to I would soak the felt with paint thinner and then wipe the paint off the top surfaces leaving paint only in the recesses. Then remove the masking tape and clean up any paint around the edges, and let it dry.

AMT model car paint and #00 and #000 Sable hair pin striping brushes. Also use a 'sign painter's bridge" (I think it's called) It's a dowel about 1/2' dia. 18 to 24" long with a rubber ball about 2" dia. at one end. You place the 'bridge' across the work area and rest your hand on it as you paint. That way you're hand is not 'hanging in the air' and you have more control. Technique was used a lot when office door lettering was done by hand with Gold leaf. A lost art, now they just slap on a decal.

I painted my wheel centers by hand, model paint and a very thin brush. I am not "artsy", and it annoyed me greatly, but they turned out nice. Once done, hit them up with a couple coats of clear enamel. I will probably do the intake crest the same way.

You know you can buy brand new ones from Suncoast for $50, right? Come with self-adhesive on the back - just peel, stick, and drive.

Put one on my Spyder, well 2 actually - one where it's supposed to go and another to help hide the large rear trunk lock. They're aluminium.
