Key Fob replacement
Is there a secret to replacing the key fob
Easy to change the battery but to take the key out if it I could easily bugger it up.
Is there a trick to it before I get the hammer out>

Remove the spring and there will be a keeper down towards the key that comes out. Then wiggle it out from fob. Do this in a cardboard box as the spring is a bugger to get back in.

If you are replacing the key-head (fob) with a new one, remove the key as described. But don't take the new one apart-- just push in the key. That's what the spring is for-- to allow the key to be pushed in and then lock it in place.
New key-fobs are readily available, part # 944-538-041-01 ($22 to $37 depending on where you shop).

I've toyed with replacing my key heads as they are all scratched and worn (and are a different shape to these ones you have all posted about).
Will these key heads take the old 928 keys? I read somewhere that they dont (the key profile is different in some way).
Dont want to spend $100+ on two replacements for no reason, appreciate your experience/opinions.
Cheers

I stupidly took a punt based on your advice, and purchased one of these keyheads. But its clear it is not right. The original key is 4mm thick and the new head will only take a 2mm thick key. Given that I didnt even try to force the old key out of its current head.
I looked back at the description of the item I purchased and even they note it was for a "928" amongst other models, yet further down in the description "928" is not mentioned. A bit misleading I thought.
I have an 84S Euro.
