Default Laso water pumps for '87-'95 models

As most everyone is probably aware, the choices of what water pump they can use on their 1987-1995 928 are somewhat limited.

Before today, you can use an early Laso (only if you use the Porken tensioner), you can use a GEMA pump (it has a metal impeller, which Porsche abandoned in 1989), or you can use a factory water pump (over $1000).

Some people (including me) think that any one of those choices are bad...some far worse than another.

I've now got the latest generation Laso pumps, with the plastic impeller, suitable for use on the 1987-1995 models.

I've got 10 of these units available for immediate delivery....at an introductory price of $435. (The same price as Roger sells the '78-'86 version.) This price will increase after this first group.

These are a direct fit! Simply re-use your original idler arm pivot bolt and support arm....and you are ready to go.

This is awesome Greg, the 87-95 models had very limited choices for those wanting to use the factory tensioner. Is Laso going to continue making these or is it a limited run?

Yes, as you might be aware of, I'm a dedicated "factory tensioner" proponent. And I don't think going back to a steel impeller, some 17 years after Porsche decided they were not appropriate, is a viable choice. Therefore, before this, I was exclusively installing factory water pumps.

Laso is not offering a water pump for the 1987-1995 models, nor am I aware that they intend to do so.

That has not changed.

These are available exclusively through me.

Here I was hoping Laso was making them again. Sigh...

Nice to have a choice whether you go modern or nostalgic at your next belt change.

I have the PKT coupled with Ed's Guardian pump, overall I think it's the best combo for a 32v 928. Safeguards the valves in the event of wp failure, more constant tension and easier on the uber expensive cam gears. What's not to like?

Nice that you found some later Laso pumps - however did you really mean what you said about the factory pump for $1000??

It is GEBA not GEMA for the record.

Roger:

The late model factory pump (928 106 015 20) retails for $1093.85, today. (Reduced price from over $1100, last year.)

GEBA....GEMA....doesn't matter. Has a steel impeller. Anyone in their right mind going to put one of those into their irreplaceable GT or GTS engine block?

OK now I am really confused - that's not hard I know.

Sooo if these are not the later 87 to 95 Laso water pumps what are they?

You started by giving three pump choices that you would not use - per your words as above.
Early Laso
GEBA
Factory Porsche pump

You said about these three choices
Some people (including me) think that any one of those choices are bad...some far worse than another.
I for one think the factory pump is an excellent choice if you can afford the $1000.

I sell the early Laso for $355 however a later Laso pump is well worth the $435 - but then again it is not a Laso even though it says so on the casting. I guess you are having them made specially - kudos to you.

Anybody that actually wants one of these pumps needs to call Mary at 714 879 9072 and get on her shipping list.

They seem to be very desirable...

Roger:

I said the choices "were bad".....not that I wouldn't use any of the three.

I won't install a PK tensioner on a 32 valve engine.

I won't install a pump with a steel impeller.....as you know, I made a tool to repair damage from these impellers. I was literally loaning this tool and just having people pay for the replacement insert. After getting the tool back a couple of times damaged....and having hard to pay to repair it....it's no longer a "loaner". I now charge $1000 for the tool rental and the replacement insert.

I think everyone knows I use either a factory pump (1st choice) or a Laso.....until they discontinued the '87-'95 Laso pump. Since that point (until now) I only was installing the factory Porsche pump.

Repeat....these are genuine Laso water pumps that fit the 1987-1995 model engines.

As far as you pricing goes....I don't follow what you charge. Here's a quote from you on 11/26/2015, which is the latest information I have access to:

"If you have an 87 to 95 car and do not use a PKT you have two choices GEBA $295 and Porsche $1000+.
If you use a PKT then you have a Laso with plastic impeller $435."

So reading between the lines, Greg has acquired a wad of NOS 87-95 Laso pumps. Limited number.
