Default New Products: Exhaust products for 16v Single Exhaust

Our latest product - The Header-Y - completes the connection between our new merged-collector headers for the 16v motors and the stock or Borla Performance Exhaust. Dyno tests show a 21 lb/ft increase in torque at the tire in addition to the increase from a performance exhaust and cat delete.

http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/headerypipe.php

It is always hard to answer the question: "How much HP will I get from Headers on my 928?". Because headers are never installed alone, it is difficult to attribute what HP came from the headers and what HP came from the cat-delete or the rest of the exhaust upgrade.

But - a little while ago I had a customer deliver a nice 1984 928 5-speed to me that already had a Borla cat-back system and a Motorsport Y-pipe on it. No cat.

So our "baseline" (shown below) already shows the gain over a stock 1984 4.7L as a result of those mods. (stock is 234 at the motor, and this car did 242 at the motor).

Then we replaced the Y-pipe with our new merged-collector headers and Y-Pipe and got another 9 HP and 25 lb/ft of torque at the motor. Nice! Sounds great too.

The Header-Y is made from all 304 Stainless.

Carl, I'll put this here since others may have similar questions.

How big a job is the installation of the headers along with this Y collector and will it fit my '79 with Stage 2 SC setup? I'm also assuming this combined header and new Y collector pipe replaces the 928MS Stainless Y pipe that's currently connecting my stock headers to my Borla exhaust, correct?

Can I get the Y-pipe collector Jet-hot coated to match the headers if I'm ordering the headers Jet-Hot coated as well? In the summer I get a decent amount of heat up through my gearshift and console window switches area and am thinking the Jet-Hot coating might help to tame some of this heat; will it?

Thanks and let me know.

It was asked on Facebook but didn't see anyone answer. Why are you losing power above 5600?

That does not appear to be related to the Y-pipe. Something else looks like it's going on there. Maybe the headers???

The 80-84 USA spec cars make maximum power at about 5,200 rpm by then the intake cams valves and heads airflow meter combination are about maxed out. All you get above that is more noise Euro S cars max at about 5,900 RPM stock because of the bigger everything .

I get that, but why would the free flowing headers and Y pipe be worse than stock at high rpm?

Good point and I have no idea why the horsepower dropped off so quickly compared to stock. I initially did not notice that stock was better at the top end.

Is the large foam heat barrier below the shifter in place along with the shifter boot?

I did not know it had an aftermarket TT - all bets are off then - probably drive a truck through there never mind some heat haze 8>)
