Given that the reserve is NOT covered yet, the bidding means NOTHING !! much like posts here from users with little history it is far too easy to set up numerous accounts so you can bid on your own car or "advertise" here....

Yes you caught me, I became a user in 2013, made 27 posts since that time and bought a GTS all as part of a clever marketing ruse.

I was just looking at that car. Very nice. Low miles and looks original. One question for the group. Are those d90 original wheels for that Model Year? I have those same type chromed d90 rims on my 1990 GT. Mine, however need a "re-chrome" or some sort of restoration. Just wondering if the chrome is from the factory that way or is it aftermarket?

wrong wheels for the S-4 , and they were NOT chromed from Porsche but many dealers did that even though Porsche did not recommend it as it could compromise the strength of the wheels...their words not mine....

Todd" lowmiler" the current seller already did pimp this same car here in much the same way But the comment about the potential for shill bidding to run up prices is still pretty valid. So enjoy your GTS.

I am aware ebay can be gamed as you describe but seeing as the current high bidder has only bid 1 time on this item and received positive feedback 77 times from previous auctions, it seems unlikely to be happening in this case.

I love my GTS almost as much as my Benz.

Mmmmm Kugelfischer injection (ancestor to Bosch CIS). That Benz is --very-- glad that you drive it regularly.

For those playing at home and unfamiliar, this M-B was their middle answer to "muscle cars" of the time. Sedate-looking sedan normally fitted with a straight-six, the high-torque mechanical- injection V8 made it a real sleeper. The later 6.3 and maybe 6.9 cars had the limo engine fitted for even more performance.

I have owned several mechanically injected MB cars and just love the simplicity / ingenuity of those systems. I remember timing a pump with the "drip drip" method, which as I recall was essentially positioning the motor at top dead center for piston 1, removing an injection line and fitting a "test pipe", essentially a cut piece of FI line, pumping the primer pump furiously and rotating the IP until fuel flowed at one drip per second. That was back when MB and other German brands placed a high value building car's could last a lifetime and if necessary be serviced without expensive specialty equipment. Bean counters found these notions to be a bad policy about 1985 or so.

In this model car, the W108/109 series it was the big inline sixes that had mechanical pumps along with the 6.3. Both the 3.5 and 4.5 V8's were fitted with Bosch electronic fuel injection systems. These were the first generation of new V8 motors for MB and carried forward for several generation of MB cars. I've never driven one but the 3.5 M116 motor is said to be really a kick in the pants with a 4 speed automatic and a 6800 RPM redline.

I love the air suspension. Easy to work on the engine but it's a bitch when you whack your head on the hood attached grill. Learn to work around it really quick.

Thanks for the correction. I've only worked on the slightly later 6.3 cars. One of those would make a very nice addition to the collection. But they were scarce in the US when new, thanks no doubt to their seemingly insatiable love for fuel, in a period when US fuel supplies caused lines at gas stations and seemingly sky-high fuel prices. Definitely cars for folks who were not worried abot lots of $50 fill-ups in a time when most were used to $5 fill-ups.
