Default New Product - Bumper Plugs - 77 to 86

New Product release – Bumper plugs – These are fitted to the early cars from 77 to 86. There are two on the front bumper and two on the rear. Originally black in color and no longer available from Porsche.

They are $23.50 each or $80 for a set of four.

My back ones are black, but the front ones match the paint color. Does that mean a PO painted them?

Brad,
I believe it means the front ones are original to the car and the back ones were replaced at some point.

They were black from the factory - if they are painted it means that the bumper was painted at some time or someone went to the trouble of color matching the plugs to the car.

Taking James Morrisons 'Blue 82', and a few other pristine cars, as a reference of originality, the plugs should be unpainted.

Bump. Anyone with an original, unpainted 78-86 with bumper plugs- What finish and sheen are they? Unpainted raw black plastic? Matte? Shiny? Roger's repros look slightly shiny, not sure if that's 'correct', as it were. I have a set I'm going to need to paint black.

EDIT: Blu 82's butt, for reference.

They were body match painted on the 78's. Maybe the 79's too.

I'm embarrassed to admit I don't remember what we did on Minerva, body color or black. But looking through the more original 78s and 79s on BAT, you're right- body color. Now I'm curious as to why they went to black in '80?

For what it's worth, my 86.5 has both front and back bumper covers in matte black.

FWIW. The OEM plug from my '84 is on the left. (the one on the right was a 3D printed version I made and subsequently painted gloss black)
