Default Going back to Cali - Carmel that is! Aug 16th Concours

The organizers of the Carmel Concours can't get enough of the 928, and want us back for 2016!

Those that attended last year that didn't place have already received their official invitations to return. At Carmel, if you take first or second in class, you don't get to compete again for two years, so it's all up for grabs!

If you are interested in showing your car, go to their website www.carmelconcours.com and fill out the application. You will not see the 928 listed in any of the classes, but don't worry about that, they are expecting us. One thing that is cool is that we are exempt from the 1989 model year cut off for competing. That means that you won't see 964's, 993's , or 996's, but our later model S4's/GT's and of course the mighty GTS's are welcome.

If you're thinking about showing your 928, post here for questions or advice.

Good luck to all the participants for this year's competition!

Is "changed the radio" considered modified?

I would usually say "yes"..but wanted to make sure.

Last year 'Original' was defined as available from the factory when the car was built. So if you have a part on your car that doesn't meet that definition, you may get a deduction. A lot is dependent on the judges' (there are two per class) interpretation.

Lol, no kidding, two of the winners were pretty modified from stock.

Was still a fantastic time, wish we had been able to stay the entire week.

It was a blast last year! We're planning on being there again with the GTS. Better start cleaning now to make sure there are no more pesky pine needles to be found!! Planning on staying for the week as we obviously missed out on some other great events.

A word to the wise, you should start looking for accommodation space now. There are still plenty of very spendy places available, but the affordable spots are filling fast.

Flights looking to be about $550, not bad.

Anyone have an open spot on a floor I can camp out on?

Will detail for beer.

I will be there with the "red car" 86.5 once GB finishes the motor which he is into now.
It's completely original all I except for a few Devek parts on the underside an Koni's with coilovers
I can even put the original radio back along with the window sticker.

I will be attending but not showing.

My 928 will also not be at Werks.

Mark,

You should provide a "second look" service for any entrants to review the preparation of their engine compartments before judging. Your final engine prep was unmatched last year.

Darn! I have the wrong refrigerant. Sunken ditch!

Have original head unit (and intact wiring for same), but later Porsche wheels. Have the original wheels but I can't see buying a set of 16" tires just for the show. How much deduct for those do you think?

Or, just clean and prep, show it off as it is, and spend time visiting. I wonder if I have enough hotel points to cover a premium week in Monterey. Proll'y need a brazillion or so.

^^^ This, I think. Your car shows well, but originality/authenticity is primarily a factor for judging. And the standards set last year by Mark's and Chris's cars were high. If you bring it to show I think you will have a great time, there are all sorts of interesting cars at that show.

Entries are accepted for either judging, or display. The judging policies are covered on the entry form (PDF here) and include things like original wheels.

The application itself asks five questions:
  • Is your entry original or restored?
  • Engine/drive-train original or modified?
  • Body work original or modified?
  • Chassis/Frame original or modified?
  • And is your entry to be judged or display?
Easy for most folks to answer "original" to those, and no questions about refrigerant
