Just so everyone knows, I've put this bulb review on hold for a bit... I have to source another set of H4 lenses. The ones I received are, in fact, RHD UK lenses. The seller has graciously allowed the ones I received to be returned, and will notify me as soon as a LHD set comes in, for an even exchange. A small hiccup that will soon be resolved, I hope.

In other news, the LED bulbs have arrived and are in excellent packaging and solidly constructed. They are indeed Philips Luxeon ZES chips seen HERE and HERE. Lumileds Lighting was formed in November 1999 as a joint venture between Philips Lighting and Agilent Technologies.

I will follow up as soon as the correct lenses arrive. Apologies for the delay.

Good news! I finally found a set of euro H4 headlights! Testing of these lenses and the Philips LED bulbs will be done in the upcoming weeks.

These bulbs look just like a pair I tried out recently.
They were total **** in my H4 housing - because the light only comes from two "points" the light was only reflected and dispersed through the lens in two blobs of light...not a full spread on the ground like the halogen bulb.

I uninstalled the LED's and boxed them up for a return within 30 minutes of receiving them in the mail and installing them in my car.

I hope your experience is better than mine was.

Well, I'll be measuring lux of an illuminated wall at night from a set distance, using my H4 lenses (with old bulbs), H5 lenses with new sylvania bulbs, and H5 lenses with these Philips LED bulbs. Hopefully they're worth the money... but at the very least I'll have some H4 sylvania silver stars.

Are they Euro LENSES, or US lenses?

I concur that statement bought a set in U.K used them in two vehicles one with new headlights and correctly adjusted on beam setter for U.K. M.O.T. they were total ******* crap reverted back to 80/100 bulbs run through new main supply and relays ,the L.E.D's used the same power supply.

You might also try measuring the light at 100'. One of the common problems with LEDs is that some of the bulbs don't throw light as far as the stock bulbs. I'm running two sets of LEDs currently, one in 8" euro H4's and one in 7" H4 Hellas. The 8" are much better of course, but I'm not completely satisfied with either set's long distance lighting.

After watching the 2nd video, I see that the design is not what I first thought it was. I like the idea of having a small row of LEDs that is close in shape and size of a stock filament, but instead of shooting light up for low beam and down for high beam as most do, this set seems to have the LEDs throwing light to the side with a shield to control the light for low beam. This may work, but it doesn't seem like any light is being thrown directly up or down so I'm skeptical. Looking forward to your review.

Thanks Sean, beat me to it.

I have a lux meter, which is a more accurate measurement of headlight effectiveness at 50 ft (and 100ft if I can find a big enough parking lot without overhead lights). I Measured the stock headlights with old bulbs, and will report all results in a single post. It's not great weather here, so I'm going to install the H4's soon and test during a cloudy (not rainy) evening for maximum darkness and measurement accuracy.

They are Euro lenses for LHD, not UK or Japan.

Another update. I've decided to direct-power the headlights using a relay system.

Here is the thread I made the design off of: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...lay-setup.html

For the halogen comparison, I've selected the Philips X-Treme Vision H4 bulbs

I've selected the following components for the direct-power circuit:
The final assembly will resemble this:
