Default New 16v headers with merged collectors here for fitment.

The 32v 928 headers with merged collectors came out last year.

I know have a set of 16v headers with merged collectors here for fitment. After we tweak these a bit, they will go back to MSDS so they can adjust their manufacturing jigs.

We have already had the car to the dyno the way it was brought to us, a 1983
928 4.7L that has stock exhaust manifolds, a y-pipe, no cat, and a Borla SS exhaust after that.

All we will change is the exhaust manifolds for the merged-collector headers. Everything else will be the same, so we should get a good before-and-after dyno comparison from this.

Would be interesting to see the difference between the merged collectors and the older MSDS headers

True! But I have been trying to get a before-and-after headers dyno done for years and never got the right car in here to do it. Invariably, with the headers goes on a cat-delete and a performance exhaust too.

So we are never able to determine what part of the HP gain was headers and what part was the rest of the exhaust.

But, now I have a car which we are only installing the headers and nothing else (finally!) so I can at least get that question answered...

On my GT I have the MSDS headers , I have a set of level 2 Devek headers I was thinking of swapping out to see the HP difference . I wonder what the new MSDS 32V would do over the older ones

There was a big thread around here somewhere about merged collectors vs standard collectors. It seemed the CW was about 10 HP, but nobody knew for sure.

Merge collector acts like extended straight tube collector. It will boost the header scavenging effect, which is one important factor to remove exhaust residuals
from cylinder before intake valve opens next time. Also, strong scavenging will reduce exhaust pumping losses when piston is going up while exhaust valve is open.

One of the problems with previous MSDS headers has been too short straight tube collector giving too little scavenging.
New style collector should be improvement over previous design. However, the primary tuned length is still even more important to make big HP.

We have them listed at $795 for a set, unpainted. We also offer Jet-hot coating for those that want it (I use Jet-hot and LOVE it!

Fresh pics - just back from being Jet-Hot coated.

Again - these are 16v headers with merged collectors...

Two more pics. This time of the inside of the merged collectors.

These are so cool.
I hope I can save enough money to order before my engine goes back in.
But then again, I work so slowly that shouldn't be too hard. LOL

Wow, thanks Carl for making these killer headers available.

If I may ask, what would be the "ideal" street set-up for the rest of the exhaust system in your opinion beyond the headers?

Again, thanks
Dan

The trick is what you do AFTER the headers. We have a Header-X that takes 32v headers to the stock exhaust and our performance dual exhaust system - but there is no such thing for the 16v motor.

I'm going to see today/tomorrow how far off our header-x is from fitting these headers. It'd be a great way to adapt a early car to dual exhaust...
