The flow director goes into the upper inlet on the right side of the radiator to push hot coolant down the side tank so there is flow across all the radiator. I believe that Mark installed some used end tanks before and probably put a right side tank upside down on the left side....and left in the flow director which would then have been a flow restrictor...
anyway, i wonder if the side tank was from the other side, and installed upside down as you say.... so, should i remove it? doesnt seem to bother anything so far and its been a few years that theory makes sense though.. the other side was probably fine and has the flow director.... the oil cooler side is incorrectly set up. maybe it keeps the flow in the radiator longer to get better cooling..
