Default X -Pipes in Missouri

I have a stock '84 auto and have been thinking about ways to upgrade the power. The X-pipe thing came to mind. I'm not sure that change is legal in Missouri. I believe the state requires that all emissions equipment that was originally came with the car (in '84) still be in place and be operational to get licensed in MO. While Mo doesn't do an emission test, they do check to see if all such equipment is in place and functioning.

Anybody had any experience with X-pipes in MO that could jump in here with some answers/experiences? The car is a semi-daily driver with about 73K.

Any other thoughts or reasonable HP increases? I have limited mechicnical skill.

Thanks for your help.

Since your car has a single exhaust pipe the best you can do is a Y pipe or test pipe in place of the cat. And that is tampering with the emissions equipment. ...

I guess I'm your demographic here.
Yes, your interpretation of the Missouri regulations are correct.
Yes, altering your stock emissions will net you a significant HP gain.
Yes, I giggle like a little girl when the 86.5 hits her power band.
Yes, there will be at least one post on this thread that will admonish the environmental impact there in, by my actions to do so.

You will need to put your stock hardware back on when you have an inspection or find an garage that does exotic speed cars and be really friendly.

should have X pipe & S300s chips installed by the end of next week, I will let you know my thoughts on MY87' auto, from a HP=$ stand point I think the pipe/ chip combo is the easiest, For about $750 you can bolt on some significant increases.

where are u in St Louis?
