jumping in here...
Carl is very right about the Hella H4 being a BIG step over the stock 7" sealed beams...

but the Hella E-code lenses are even better...and if you add a wiring harness driving the bulbs straight from the alternator, you can start a forest fire...

Default Our LED bulbs out on the road

On of our customers purchased our 2S LED H4 bulb upgrade some weeks ago in readiness for their trip across Europe - France, Italy & the Alps then through Switzerland then home to the UK. They didn't want to make the trip on poor lights in their VW T4 Van So they purchased our LED bulbs.

At the weekend I asked for some photos for our website - the customer was over the moon at how well he could see the road with our lights during their Euro trip and especially up through the Alps. So he said he would take some photos at the weekend and maybe a video - Well what can I say - a happy customer is always the best recommendation - take a look at what he posted up to YouTube!

Great video - what a great customer - Nice LED lights on the road video!

I just installed LED H5 replacement Cree from www.woodypack.com. They do not fit out of the box. For one the retaining ring has to be modified a bit but not to the point of total ruination. Also, they have orientation key ways that work on one side but not the other therefore you have to remove tow of the key ways on one side to get the bulbs to match. Bu that I mean, there is a single bulb on one side and three bulbs on the other. I tried them both ways and the best way was three bulbs down one up. Also, the plug works but I recommend tapering because it fits sloppily together.
That being said, they are easy to install (after you figure out how to install them, the instructions are vague )
How they work, well, they are white. I paced foo the distance I could see and it was 70 yards (210 feet). After that my shadow was lost and it was a full moon so it was not fully dark. I took a drive on a winding road that I like to cruise and in the past I felt I was blind. With these light it was much better but I have to drive some more before I am completely satisfied but all and all a real improvement. I will try to post some pictures of the modifications I had to make.

Default Here are some pictures of what I had to do

I had to open the retaining ring to get it over rhe bulb so it would stay in. I also had to grind off orientation keys on the right side light so the side with three LED'S would face down. The high beams are not much but low is good. No flasing when on the road but I am going to have my Wife drive by on a dark road this week and I will see if it is blinding. Get about 210 feet out of them

Bump to learn what can be done with conversion from 7" sealed beams to LED. State of the art today?

If you upgrade the sealed beams to a drop in 7" quality brand (Bosch, Hell, etc.) You will have no need for anything else.

Good thread, but not about the 7" headlight alternatives. But I will get to position/fogs sooner or later!

Exactly what I have been wondering about- I hoped this inquiry would flush out a few opinions about this approach vs. something like Nighthawks.

I tried a PM but no joy. How much are you asking for them, and which bulbs are included, if any?
ill do.

I put a set of 7" Hella's H4's in a car, then added an aftermarket H4 LED headlight and that also worked well.

I should have mentioned that what I meant was a complete E code 7" retrofit kit (drop in) is what I was talking about. You simply replace the existing sealed beams with a kit like Bosch or Hella. I have a Bosch kit, work extremely well and a kit is usually around a $100 or less.
