Default Safari/rally 928?

I've seen a few Safari or rally style builds for 911's recently - picking up cues from the Paris Dakar cars amongst others.

Has anyone seen any 928's modded in a similar style? All terrain tyres, lights, nudge bars, racks etc. I don't mean simply sticking a 928 body on a 4WD chassis, probably more like the French 'expedition' car.

I've always wondered what it would look like, not much on Google images.

Something like this?

Or maybe not. Apparently this depicts a car raced in the 1984 24 hours of Daytona (Elford/Attwood).

I was wondering a similar thing. My s4 is on axle stands at present and every time I look at it, I think it looks good raised.

One of two things I was thinking of when reading the title. Did they ever release a book?

The other being just the factory prototype testing stuff.

If someone creates a car like that, it should be based on the early 32v model that I believe Porsche homologated for Group B. There's FIA doc describing some of the rally car parts somewhere on the web.

I've been thinking of doing this as well. I live in New Orleans with lots of potholes and rain so was thinking of this idea for a daily driver!

No book so far. But we (the Porsche Club 928 de France) try to convince Philippe to write a book after the world tour 2016.

He currently works on the car to have it ready for the trip.

I'm surprised that the brush bar/guard doesn't look too bad. I bet that was an exciting trip.

This is such a wonderful and inspiring story.
While my forlorn 928 sits in boxes, machine shops, and parts supplier's shelves (LOL ! ! )
I daydream about finally firing it up, drafting the nearest son (or maybe even my ninja-supermodel-in-training daughter !) and tearing out on a coast-to-coast trip.
I wonder if I would ever have enough confidence in my restoration to do it? Maybe I just need to be crazy enough.... well, heck, that won't be a problem !!!!

I bet it corners well by taking advantage of the 928 suspension system.
