Red Car first trip and it's now broken in LA
Got the red car to run TA DA
Final pieces to the puzzle was to replace the cold start sensor
as it would wouldn't idle, adjust the timing belt as it was really loose
Replace a 2 exhaust gaskets and now it runs like it should, or it did.
I know I took a leap of faith by going from a "non runner" purchased on BAT in NB Canada to a runner and then on it's first real road trip since 2003.
As I was driving south to LA a puff a blue smoke would blow out thru the exhaust about every minute or so. As a driver I could not see it but when I stopped for gas the driver of a car that was following me gave me the news.
I need to add a little over a quart of Brad Penn 20/50. There is a fairly loud rattle
on the passenger side cams near the front and an oil leak ( big oil leak)
Ended up adding 2 qts to go 200 miles. Lucky that I brought extra oil along
It doesn't run poorly but the death rattle hurts. It's about 100 degrees in LA and I managed to get the car to my mothers house in LA where I parked it in the garage and I will try to access the damage on Sunday. I called Greg Brown
but have not heard back. Week from Sharktoberfest.....
I am thinking that maybe it blew out the rear camshaft seal?
Any suggestions?

for rhw 32V the common leaking area is the cap seals on the ends of the heads ,
new versions have arms that bolt on over the new style caps,
Also the cam covers will leak onto the manifolds
Death rattle has me worried, but could it be a loose sample tube,
or a bearing going bad in the air pump,
also a loose timing chain or worn tensioner pads or failed lifter

stan covered the leaks...
the puff of smoke may have been coming from oil on the header...
get a cheap mechanics stethoscope and check to id where the rattle is coming from

Thank you for the advice
I have AAA 100 mile 4 x per year so I'm covered.
I have had a chance to look around and listen to it. There is a very loud knock in the front of the motor
and i have gone thru yet another qt of oil getting to my LA garage and nothing on the floor.
It sounds like a rod knock. Not good what ever it is. No leakage at the cam seals front or back, no leaking
at the cam covers.
Flat bed and rental cars here we come

might be a cam pulley bolt coming loose,
pull the dipstick out, and put a piece of lamp cord down the tube to get a sample ,
drip the oil onto a black piece of cardboard go to the sunlight look for metallic s.
NOTE at any rate disconnect the battery, and pull the 14 pin connector apart at the hot post,
this so nobody is successful at starting the engine.

You might be on to something here. When I changed the oil it appeared to have a metallic shine to it
and I was concerned about it but denial prevailed.

if you find metal in the oil ,
then an engine pull is next.
NOTE the dipstick will shear small particles as it slides in the tube,
hence the use of lamp cord..
NOTE This test is simple and fast,
and does not require the car to be on a lift.
Ideally you would pull the filter off and open it up.
BUT doing the oil drip onto the black cardboard should be first
