The answer depends on what your parameters are for "best"

Price? Ease of Installation? Engine Safety? Performance? Cost of Ownership?

There is a purchasing matrix in there, depending on how you rank those items.

I can help answer your questions when i know what they are.

I had also done a rennlist search regarding this topic, and there is a general perception among 928 experts that Murf928 is rated at the top with VCB very closely behind.

However, I also have a 335xi and a 89S4, and feels that it is much more than just power that distinguishes those cars, but modern auto transmission programming really takes advantage of every engine's power curve. Of course, my S4 also needs a top end refresh, and I'm sure it can recover another 5-10% power following that maintenance.

Keep in mind, the N54 or N55 engines are rumored to produce 330 hp at the crank, not the advertised 300.

Finally, I feel that driving our machines is about more than just numbers in the speed and quickness game, but the overall experience we get inside of them. The sound of the v8, the calmness of the cabin as speed builds up, etc.

Anyway, murf would be my choice if I was going to sc route.

I have talked to the Porsche dealer that has done the service recently, have the receipts and the previous owner is a good friend.
I have never seen a Porsche dealer who would have a clue if the knock sensors were working or not, or the hall sensor. You do not say what year the car is but if those parts are not new you should not assume they are good. Any one who does a top end refresh on an S4 automatically changes the knock sensors, hall sensors and checks the TPS. You car is circa 25 years old and if the MAF has not been rebuilt or replace it will need doing.

Pretty naive for someone to say
No special preparation needs be made prior to installing our kit. However, we suggest a standard tune-up, and that the timing belt/water pump service be reasonably current.
especially on an S4

Erin at the end of the day it's your car and your money.

To me the Victor kit and Murfs kit are the well proven systems out there based on general feedback from customers.

Victors has to be the best bang for the buck (no pun intended) based on price and ease of fitting.

Default One more thnig

Buy a sharktuner 2. It's a lot of fun and will help you verify that everything is in order before supercharging the car.

Throw the motor in the back of the shed, and jam an LS1 under the hood, instant power and much more possibilities of bolt on horsepower.

I am not interested in a LS-1 swap. No offense but if I wanted the LS-1 I would have bought a Corvette.
I have seen videos of supercharged 928 S4 that is faster than LS-1.
I want the Porsche engine. My engine is in pristine condition. It's strong and smooth like butter. The perfect candidate for a supercharger.
The Porsche engine is a master piece. It is a 25 year old car. I would like to bring the performance to todays level.
As far as I am concerned the 928 S4 is a supercar. It is an old supercar that could use more power. I realize it won't have the modern electronics or traction. It is a German muscle supercar. Like I said before I am not a racer. I want the power to be available for spirited drives and top end.
Please help me decide which supercharger to buy. thank you

To me, that seems like a strange comment. Did you read the info from Fred and lizard? Or anyone else?

I bet the 10k could be spent on dozens of things that are not perfect on the car.

Shocks? Ball joints? Wheel bearings? Motor mounts? Pan gasket?

These are wear items. Why is it that people (not you specifically, but if the shoe fits...) think shocks and ball joints are "replace them when they break” instead of wear items?

Pics?

Get a sharktuner 2 and head to the dyno while you contemplate the options.

In my opinion, the twin screw Lysholm type supercharger is by far the best for a street car. I don't think anyone offers a kit, thought. Maybe there's a used system for sale somewhere.

Of the centrifugal kits, I'd go with the Murf system since it has a large installed base and it's a mature product.

I am sorry to hear the negative stuff on Carl's 928 Motorsports kit. I have his 16-valve kit, and could not be happier. (I know he is the only supercharger provider for 16-valve 928's). He is a high quality engineer, and he would not supply a"bad" product. Reputations are built or ruined by small comments, and I wanted to add something positive.

Shocks, ball joints, wheel bearings, motor mounts, pan gasket all replaced within the last year.
I don't understand why people insist. Let me repeat the car is in pristine shape.
As for the 928 Motorsport supercharger I hear the 16-valve kit works nicely. The 32-valve kit is the issue. Carl can come online here and defend his product against Murf's and VCG.
I am not an expert. I need guidance. That is why I asked here. All I hear is 928 Motorsports supercharger is NO good. Either get Murf's or Victor's kit.
