Default Impossibly heavy throttle after gearbox swap.

OK, so my old '82 Euro S gave up the ghost last year, and it has taken this long to fit a newer 4-speed A/T into the car, replacing the old 3-speed. The box is almost working right - but the main problem is that the pressure required to push the throttle is simply horrendous.

To get the kick-down switch activated requires so much pressure that before the car is in 4th gear, my lower leg is cramping. I would guess 50-80 kilos of force required to floor it.

It also makes the throttle very difficult to finely adjust.

Essentially, the car is ruined for driving until this is fixed.

The plan it to disconnect the Bowden cable, to see if that if where the weight si coming from - and I am 100% sure that without it connected, the throttle will be light and easy - like it used to be.

But my question is this: How can we lighten the throttle pressure when we have established that is IS coming via the kickdown cable?

Any advice would be welcomed!

Cheers, Chris.

How do you know it 'coming from the kick down cable' ?
The lever arm that the control pressure control cable moves has almost no resistance or tension to it. Possibly could be restriction in the cable sheath like Speed mentioned. Lot of work done here, and things may need readjustment.
Isolate each cable, and check its freedom of movement - pedal, throttle, transmission, and cruise.

And Chris, first post.
Welcome To The Tank.

One possible cause - the cable can slip off of the pulley at the back of the engine, and wedge betwee the pulley and the bracket.
