Default Car occaisionally doesn't start ('83 'S')

Sorry to bore you all to horrible tears with such a boring post but I haven't resolved this intermittent problem: my car is my daily driver, about once every two or three weeks it won't start. Usually after I've driven a short distance (but not always). I leave it for a short while and it will start right up fine. I've had it towed back to my house once only for it to start up fine when I got there.

I have replaced the fuel pump check valve (and fuel filter), replaced the green wire with a good used one from 928int that was actually green (the one I replaced was a crusty brown). When it won't start, if I jumper the fuel pump relay, I can hear the fuel pump whirring away but it still won't start.

Any suggestions on what I should investigate?
Thanks.

One time it was the fuel injection relay. Other time it was the fuel pump fuse, then there's the fuel regulaor/damper, if no cold start it could be the temp II sensor, cold start valve etc....depends on symptoms....could be the grounds, pull the vacuum hose from the regulator and damper for fuel leaks, if yes then needs replace.

Hi there Barry. Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.

it usually starts fine from cold. Can I eliminate those two things?

Fuel pump fuse is good. Not sure about the relay, I’ll trouble shoot that. I’ve inspected and wirebushed the accessible grounds (they all looked perfect but I know they can be problematic). I shall do a more thorough investigation.

No fuel leaks detected in this area. Vacuum hose is perfect and holds vacuum.

Going to have a good dig around tomorrow. Anything else I should look out for?
Thanks

Not sure about the relay
You can try jumping the relay and if it starts then theres the problem?

Fuel pump fuse is good
if it doesn't look broken...it could still be corroded, last time i had a no start but it cranks...it was the fuse.
