Fuel lines reversed?
Wondering...would the car start and run if the supply and return were reversed under the hood?
Just finished vacuum and fuel line refresh of the new to me 82....and if you have read my thread, you saw the mess the PO made....well, I marked everything very clearly.....put it all back together Saturday, and cranked her up.....she started right up, but surged as if I was pumping the gas...vroom, vroom, vroom.....for about 30 seconds, then settled to a nice idle.
When I give her gas, she just cuts off. If I ram it to the floor, she jumps to about 5k rpm, then drops to an idle, or cuts off. I can not hold steady at any rpm.....I thought about this all day at work today...won't be able to crawl under the car tonight to trace what the PO did, but wondering if that could be what is happening.....could he have reversed the lines? Remember, he removed the damper, re routed all the fuel lines, and installed his own adjustable FPR in the return line.....he also replaced the fuel pump (going to look at that next) I wonder if he reversed the lines....could that cause my symptoms?
Any thoughts?

Good question but somehow I don't think so. The trick is what the fuel pressure regulator would do. Since it opens to maintain a pressure, and the pressure is negative, I'll bet there's very little or no flow.

Hence, my thought that it idles fine, once it struggles for 30 seconds...but just dies when given any throttle.....I have no fuel smell at the damper or FPR vacuum, seems like all fuel stops when it is given throttle...hope to get a look underneath, at the fuel pump and trace out the lines tomorrow evening.

Ok, I traced out the lines, and they appear to be going to the right places... The big surprise was when I opened the fuel pump cover. The "new" fuel pump put in by the PO was new at one time, but....:I'll post pics in the great white thread. Needs a strainer, fuel pump, filter, and strainer to pump hose..
