What is it with other drivers around the 928 and being complete azzhats?

Man, it was 30 years ago I was followed by the CHP up Topanga cyn for quite a way. I finally pulled over on a semi wide spot and let him pass. I was driving the Avanti at the time, and guessing he thought I was gonna seesaw it through there.
In frustration for not being able to bust me, he pulled over some guy in a US made shyte-mobile buick something a few miles up. A true feminine hygiene product.

Funny thing is down here my experience is that the 928 has other drivers showing more courtesy than other cars I've driven. I have to go on the Northern Motorway which is a pig to get on to in the morning and then bumper to bumper slow. Every time in the 928 other drivers make room and let me in, I also drive an Audi and then its a bit different. I think most times they just want to have a look at the car, you hardly ever see a 928 on the road here whereas 911's are dime a dozen common.
The last road rage incident I had was when a guy in an Isuzu 4 wheel drive started abusing me (thought he was going to climb out the window while driving, I swore he was frothing at the mouth) for no reason (honestly), I was in my old 986.

In SoCal I got tailed by Audis and cars with buzzing fart cans. Lets just say they can't maintain speed up a 7% grade, or even accelerate like a 928 can . 2nd gear is the best
Plus the occasional rich kid in a BMW his parents bought him, I just like to watch them get pulled over for driving like an *** hat.
But in NorCal I get priuses, they are vicious up here. They cut you off, tailgate, and just drive stupid up here. They're like the new VW beetle
The cops are even worse up here. Once about 3 weeks ago (end of the month, coincidence?) my radar detector went off and then the signal went away, but it came back.
Getting stronger and stronger as one car got closer and closer going well above the speed limit ( I was going it).
Then I saw the headlights of a crown vic and it cut off, with less than 4 feet of space, the person behind me and then followed me for 5 miles blasting me with his radar, making my detector go mad.
I couldn't even see his headlights after that he was so close.
But anyways, you could imagine how angry I was when I finally got home, without a ticket of course.
I had to give the obligatory 1 finger salute to the cop as he turned to go back onto the freeway, it was well deserved.
Looking back on it I should have slammed on the brakes going down the hill on Highway 92. Would have made for an epic report.
You guys are lucky in DFW to only be harassed by normal people, I get targeted by cops, and I don't even speed most of the time.

I drive a lot of backroad twisties here in Virginia, and I don't speed. What catches a lot of tailgating wanna-race-wanna-be's is I don't slow down for curves much, either, including reeeelly tight ones (even more fun now with new stabilizer bar bushings!). Can't tell how many times I have looked in the mirror to see a rather large gap open up between my 928 and whatever asshat who has been on my *** and is now in the wrong lane wondering what the hell just happened as he tries to get back under control... after all that guy wasn't going that fast, was he? They very rarely come back on my tail after that. Some of you have had similar experiences it seems. Small world!
I should add in all honesty every now and then I get it handed to me...

Oh I got it handed to me by a ricer Evolution that had his car turned up to 11 on the tuning. he'd floor it and the car would shoot out a large flame, spin all 4 tires and go sideways, all whilst going 50mph. I would like to see what his top speed is, pretty sure I could get him there.

Three Wheelin'
It's not much trouble to lose most idiots on a windy road when need be.
Not so proud of this story as I lost my cool and abandoned my more reasonable judgment.. I was in the passing lane on the interstate and fast approaching a semi in the right lane. New at the time Mustang GT comes screaming into the picture to try to beat me in front of the semi. There wasn't enough wiggle room as I had already started passing. He jumps in behind me and I literally felt the rear end get light enough for a moment that it felt like the tires were about to break traction. He must have been within 3-4 inches for the air movement alone to have that effect. We might have been doing 80mph.
This is when I discovered the top end speed of the 928. In an instant reaction to what I had just felt in my seat, I dropped the hammer down on the taller right pedal. The Mustang was faintly there until 1:30. The Mustang wasn't anywhere to be found at 1:59+..
The windshield wipers were bouncing up off of the glass pretty good when I let out.
This was in an '84 US car. Top speed was supposed to be 145 IIRC. Either the speedo shouldn't be trusted at those speeds or these cars are underrated.

The worst part is my car is black. Not even an interesting color to call attention to myself. But I guess the exhaust does that.
I did however find out long ago that you can wind out first gear in the 3 speed to 85 (mph or kmph is your choice ), put it into second and get slammed into your seat and anyone near you becomes a dot in your rear view.
It's pretty fun, but more important when two azz heads get into a road rage fight next to you and you need to get away, sure enough it was an Audi and a fart canned Civic.

Happens to me all the time. Usually fart can equipped Acuras and Hondas. Depending on the circumstances I may give them a little burst in 3rd and then give them the satisfaction of going past me so the police can give them the ticket.
It isn't just us though. An old friend from grad school has a C5 and he related over dinner that every schmuck seems to want to race a Corvette.

I agree with previous poster that said its not just 928s but any cool/unusual car.
I picked my 993 up in Tuscon and drove it back to Atlanta. I have never in my life been on a roadtrip where I dealt with so many morons.

Last weekend on my way home late Friday night some azzhat in some suv was tail gating me in a 55 mph construction zone, I am in the right lane doing 55 approaching my exit, it's a 25 mph hairpin with a very short decel lane. I slowd to about 48 never touching the brakes, I hold the curve like I'm on rails, and no more tailgater, azzhat had jumped the curb.

true about the pickup truck dudes. We have 'em up here in WNY too. All jacked up with the big tires sticking way out, very impatient to get to the next saloon. Most other drivers around here are reasonably courteous. The southland is full of jerks in a hurry to get nowhere. I75 south of Gainesville, FL is sure to show you a few. I'm flying from now on.

As another Atlantan, the interesting part is typically not so much in the 928 more interest in the car and the usual "what is it?" However, in the 996, serious asshats both from the tuners and the rednecks! Everyone wants to race, as others have said, I just let them go when in the 996, in the 928...another story. The look is typically "What just happened??"

For me, in the Boston area, I am used to the tailgating, completing the pass "early", pulling out from side roads with minimal time/distance, and the general thinking that "right on red" doesn't require a stop or lack of oncoming cars - it is all normal behavior - the way traffic flows around here. It happens to me/others regardless of what one is driving.
What DOES get under my skin is the lack of respect; the not giving of extra leeway when someone is obviously driving a special/classic car. When I am driving, and come across a car that is obviously someone's pride and joy, I make it a point to give them extra room and use extra caution when navigating around them. And, this phenomenon also applies to parking lots. Why not give that shiny, 25+ year old car enough room to open their doors?
