Ill host an event at my place in San Jose, where we could get a few folks together and do the swap. I have a "lift" since I think you dont any more.

My lift is a pad-lift, and goes up about 3 ft.

Speedtoys and I also will have a way to move the car as well, very soon, unlss you want to flat bed it

Let me know.

July 4 weekend would work great if you can get a replacement trans in time.

I don't know if your luck ran out or not...first, it quit in your driveway...instead of hundreds of miles away...second, you have had plenty of generous offers...instead of being ignored.

You seem too "still" be a pretty lucky guy, if you ask me.

There's no doubt that anything metal can break at anytime, however the '89 transmissions have the later, more robust, B2 pistons. Not the very latest, greatest one, but not the "early version".

For the amount of effort required, I'd certainly encourage you to pull out the piston and take look.

You've got some great offers of help and pieces....that offer from Jerry for the '89 core is real "first class"......even if it did have a "wonky" valve body, yours would interchange.

Very sorry to hear this, Bill. You must have run over a piece of Kryptonite at some point. Maybe it was a small piece and it only took out the B2 piston? Sure sounds like it's worth a look vs doing a big R&R to an unknown non-caped tranny.

Again, I deeply appreciate all the generosity I'm seeing...the trannies, numerous offers of help with repair /replacement, encouragement to investigate the B2 from Greg and Dave A, Mark's (granprixweiss928) offer of a lift equipped work area and transport. Wow! I will be planning things tomorrow.

The famous South African golfer Gary Player was often labelled as being "very lucky" when playing against the likes of Arnold Palmer and Jack Niklaus. When confronted by these allegations he infamously retorted that in fact he agreed he was very lucky- in his experience he found that the more he practiced the luckier he became!

What goes around comes around- no coincidence- given all the help you have contributed now it is time for folks to help you and great to see the offers flooding in- just shows what a great community we have here- just wish I was a bit closer so I could chip in to the effort myself.

Bill - Happy to help too. Let me know where and when. I have a fairly good (floor type - not suitable for a lift) transmission jack if needed... and have once before experienced the fun and excitement of 928 transmission removal and replacement...

FWIW, your symptoms coincide perfectly with those of "low transmission fluid level". Would I be out of place asking if you had looked at reservoir level?

I would certainly check the B2 piston as I had a similar issue on my '88. In my case the piston did not break, but leaking tranny cooler lines (I think) had enabled a small amount of crud to enter the system and it built up in the B2 piston area, embedding the the seal, and eventually causing it to stick. It is so easy and cheap that you should at least have a look.
