Re-Wiring Speakers on '88
Anyone know how to and what tools are good to rewire the speakers for using an after-market stereo. I am currently tapped into very thin wires possibly to the OEM amplifier and I get this high frequency hum when I accelerate. So I want to rewire to the speakers and bypass the OEM amp.
Thanks

You just need some basic electrician hand tools, a wire crimper and stripper. Plus any misc. tools needed to remove the interior components like a screwdriver, wrenches, etc.
A clothes hanger also helps when trying to get wires through tight places.

Which speakers? Doors or rear quarter panels? Running new wire to the door panels is not too onerous but properly routing to the rear quarter panels can be a real pain.
Do you have a 100% stock factory head unit, amp and speakers currently? If so, there's nothing inherently wrong with the speaker wire that ran from the factory amp to the factory speakers. If you have any aftermarket stuff in the car now, some PO might have strung crappy wire to the speakers, or (more likely) bypassed the noise suppressor/choke that would have been part of the stock system.
If you want to go straight from a new head unit, slide the passenger seat back and remove the floor mat and carpet. you can run speaker wires from the console, under the carpet on the passenger side of the central tunnel, in front of the passenger seat over to where the amp is/was. Then you can splice your new speaker wires into the factory loom. You can use a 9V battery to see which factory wire connects to which speaker.
All the above is speculation without knowing what is currently in your car. Pictures would be worth thousands and thousands of words, of the following:
1. Console
2. Door speakers
3. rear quarter panel speakers
4. under the passenger side cover lateral to the passenger seat.
