Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix: July 17-19
The Pittsburgh Vintage grand Prix - now in its 33d year. Come join hundreds of your fellow p-car enthusiasts as we again gather on the lawn at Schenley Park to enjoy our cars, the races and above all, the camaraderie that has grown over the years. We always have a nice gathering of sharks - the 928 Owner's Club has been one of the sponsors of this event for the past several years. Now is the time to register and get this event on your calendar.
The PVGP takes place in scenic Schenley Park in the heart of Pittsburgh. This is one of 2 vintage races that occur on public streets in the world, the other being Monaco. It is also a significant charity fundraiser – proceeds are donated through the PVGP to the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School.
This year promises to be the best yet. We will have the Janis Joplin Porsche 356 this summer, on display direct from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum, and on loan to us by the family of Janis Joplin. A very special car for a spectacular event! The Joplin Porsche will be displayed "Under the Tent" as the center piece of a display of special cars. Also, in light of this very special exhibit, we will also display an additional 10 Porches "Outside of the Tent", in a semi-circle around the main display. If you would like to have your car considered for this companion exhibit, please send the request with car details to me at pvgp@arpca.com. The donation for this display is an additional $150 for each day (regular registration also applies). This is a once in a lifetime chance to have your car parked next to this iconic Porsche!
Here are the highlights of the weekend activities to enjoy:

This is our second annual hosting. There will be plenty of good cheer at a venue right next to the hotels and turnpike just North of the City. It will also include a nice impromptu gathering of Porsches of all varieties. All local and distant sharks welcome. Starting at 5 pm to ?

Come on up Fraggle - us 928 guys will probably get together Saturday night too, we usually do something fun. Gotta see what Rick has in mind. Otto and Robin usually come up as well as others from out of town. We had a good group last year. The Friday night party is fun too - lots of nice Porsches of all stripes there.

Unless there is a family event I have not remembered, Robin and I will certainly be there. This is now a fixture on our annual schedule.
If you have not attended this event before, I highly recommend it. There is usually a pretty strong 928 showing and the other Porsche people have always been a diverse and friendly crowd. Also, the park where the event is held is just crammed with all kinds of great cars and the range of what you can see is amazing.
If you are coming up from the south or in from southeast, you can also stop and see Fallingwater on your way into or out of Pittsburgh. Fallingwater was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and is considered by many to be his penultimate design for a residence. Info on the house and tours is available here: http://www.fallingwater.org/ Robin and I enjoyed this so much we may go back for a repeat this year.

I'd love to come again this year (would you guys let me hang out with you, even if I drove a different German Marque????), but we'll be away on vacation with son's family in Kauai. Can't conveniently get a flight back to Pgh for one day!! Hopefully NEXT year, as this is a great outing.

We'll miss you Gary.
Would love to see you Matt with your special Gulf Blue 83S RS - any chance of making it over? Same for you Stan, Glen, and the other folks from over the East way. Let's try to double the sharks this year!

awesome Rick. I'd love to see 10 928s this year. Bring them out guys. Matt - bring the 83RS over - it will get lots of love here.
There is a new thing this year - for those getting in early on Friday, there will be a rally leaving the Double Wide restraunt in Cranberry (by the hotels) at 2 pm. It will run through the country side and end up at the Double Wide Grill around 5pm, in time for the start of the Welcome Party and Porsche CarShow for the out of towners. We are still thinkning about what we are going to do with the 928 crowd on Saturday night. Dinner somewhere, and maybe a fun run.
Bring 'em in folks!

If I knew approx. how many were going to make it, I could call to reserve dinner and some parking spaces.

I had a great time last year, the older small displacement race classes are a blast. As is hanging out with the group. I unfortunately am back in the work world and vacation time is a premium here. Ed, I was just telling friends last night about seeing Janis' car at the R&R Hall of Fame a rew years ago. Thanks for that pic.
