Nice thread. I'm sure if mine was clean and lubed I would not of had a cable break.

i removed the sunroof and was able to see the missing cable for the PS. My first guess was correct

after removing the sunroof, i noticed i scratched the paint off. Ouch, oh well - she is going to be painted anyways.

Next dumb question:

How do i get the cable that is lost way inside the channel?

Do i rotate the transmission and then pull it out? Is the cable just pushed through the channel until it shows through the transmission spot? I did not see any locking pins for the backside, just to the plastic guide at the front side.

any help appreciated. thanks

You just need to remove the motor and trans., and pull it out. You will need it removed to install new cable.

Isn't the hole at the motor/tranny too small to pull the cable out? If it's not, you'll need to move the cable to get the end of it exposed in that hole and then pull it through.

If it is too small, I'd think you'd need to stick a fish rod into the channel tube to push the broken part out through the other end. That'll require at least pulling hte headliner back a bit.

I pulled half out the front and the other half out the rear.

Ok, i was able to move the cable by finger nail - one cable tooth at a time. Both of the cables are extended to the end of the sunroof now.

I can only assume the new part will come with a plastic guide connected to the cable.

I need to remove the three screws connected to the rail, till the rail up and pull the oil cable out.

I might need to read-read the write up.

Yes the "shuttles" are crimped to the cables in the replacement parts. Nice opportunity to clean old grease off all the sunroof parts!

I've added this to the list of "To Do's" for our DIY tech articles. If you have any other suggestions on things you can't seem to find please let me know.

Ok - ive got the sunroof repainted, new cable installed, used new drain tray, lubed and functioning.

The only problem. When closing, i need to give the sunroof a little shove up to make it lock into place.

I had this issue before, near the end of PS cable & drain tray breaking.

Note: My height adjustment screws fell out while i was sanding the roof for paint. I didnot get a chance to measure the height. I set screwed them all the way in. No adjustments, as of yet. Looks to be a good height when in position.

I noticed the guide flags on the DS was loose. I tried to align both sides plumb. My guess, this is the issue.

thoughts?

thanks jpc
