Out of Storage
The little red car is back in the garage, after being in storage for six months. Tires are in the garage for the rears, the tires on the rear toast after three years, That's what happens after 9k miles of sticky but very soft tires
I'm putting the parts list for an engine pull. After 35 years it needs a new pan gasket, and while the engine is out I plan on addressing a number of while you in there things, hoses, seals, engine shocks, motor mounts, etc, and clean the engine bay. I am planning on doing the blue hose, actually replacing it with a hard stainless line. I hope to never need to pull the motor again. Jay Kempf has a lift and we figure the car will be down for two weeks. Any suggestions as to small things to address would be helpful. No sense in leaving a little thing undone.

Make sure that you detail your blue hose replacement. I was very tempted to replace the plastic fitting with a piece of hard line to eliminate the difficulty in replacing that stupid hose. I ended up using transmission oil cooler line from Napa. I think that line will last longer than I will live so I have forgotten about it.
I do have another one that will need the blue hose replaced, hence my desire to see what your solution will be.

Replace every bit of rubber. Coolant lines. Vacuum hoses. Fuel lines. Oil cooler lines. Power steering lines.
Good time to replace clutch and brake master cylinders.
Remove the air pump and associated plumbing. Go with short belt between crank and fan.
Rebuild the WUR and fuel distributor?
Two weeks? Optimistic looking with adding time for getting new parts to address discoveries.

Every hose, and piece of rubber I can replace will be, excepting the power steering hoses that I replaced two years ago. I replaced the internal parts of the clutch master and the brake master two years ago so they will be left in place. The idea is that I will never have to do this again. I also plan on replacing little things like the washer pumps and the like. As far as the belt drive for the fan it is not an a concern, I went thermo electric years ago. I decided not to engage in cosmetic improvements like polishing the spider or powder coating. The only area I am not sure about is the injectors, to replace or not to replace. Currently the Euro CIS injection is functioning perfectly, and I am a big fan of don't fix it if it is not broken.

Install a GTS pan baffle. While you have the pan off, I would strongly recommend going up in the lower part of the engine with a die grinder and getting all the casting flash cleaned up. For a high perf engine, the 928 has a lot of un-touched flashing everywhere. It's kind of disgusting. Wear eye/face protection at all times.
