Surprise under air filter box
I had to change my heater control valve so the airbox had to be taken out and when I decided to take a picture below the MAF I was shocked to see the mess of CR@P that was there. The person which I bought the car from had mentioned that he put some mesh screens on the ends of the air tubes because he had a mice problem, but he got everything cleaned and fixed by Mark Motors he told me. So I assumed that all was fine, boy what a mistake. After looking at the picture, I took out my shop vac since I could not reach far enough inwards to get everything, I got most of it. I guess the mice were comfortable !!!!
The second pic is after the shopvac !

Wow nice find, now's great time to replace the fuel lines and hose that all down w/ WD-40 to get rid of that oxidation and the mice won't like the smell of that either.
That mess w/ fuel would have went up really good, not that gasoline needs any help

It probably is a good time to clean that up completely, but I will wait until I remove the intake completely to get it powder coated to give it some life, until then I'm only repairing what is broken so I can enjoy driving my dream car which I waited 30 years in getting it.

I Had a similar issue, and removed about a gallon of maple seedlings (we used to call them helicopters when they fall). I duct taped a section of flexible plastic hose to my shop vac nozzle to clean out where I couldn't see.

I don't know how people to work in that area, I can barely get into that area. The pics you saw was only seen because of me reaching with my cell to take a pic, I was not able to see this with my own eyes live !

A lot of 928, 944 and 951 go up in flames. The leading cause seems to be fuel line related. The last mouse population I eradicated in an 84 customer car had chewed thru one of the lines just short of leaking. Enjoy your dream car, but for God's sake at least don't carry any grandkids in the back. The fires we've seen are fast and intense. Don't be naive on fuel lines.

The rubber lines that you see are just the outer sheath, if you will. The inner part of the hoses are lined with plastic, and if that crumbles you're going up in flames. The rubber on the outside can look perfect, but that in no way informs you about the condition of the plastic on the inside. If you're hoses are original, change them ASAP, because they are a time bomb.

Burning Brakes
A while back my '82 sat outdoors for a while with a dead battery and one day I noticed a pile of leaves and other crap by my front tire. Popped the hood and found the area under the spider packed full of leaves, cigarette wrappers and other assorted debris. Picked out everything I could reach with a pair of long needle nose pliers.
Checked again a couple of days later and all the crap was back. Cleaned everything out again and threw in a handful of moth ***** to try and deter the critters. Thought I'd gotten most of it, but in checking with a flashlight I noticed more crap under the airbox.
So I pulled the airbox and found the area underneath packed full of leaves, shredded plastic bags, etc. Pulled the first layer off and discovered a writhing mass of baby rats. Must have been about eight of them. Picked each of them up by the tail with the needle nose pliers and taught them how to fly....
Added lots more moth ***** - car stunk for a while, but no more critters - so far.
Around the same time I popped the hood on my '89 after it had been sitting outside and found a possum lying on top of the engine barring it's fangs at me... More moth *****.

I just confirmed from the service records that on this date 22-Jul-02 at 99,020 km, which now it has 125,500km, all rubber hoses had been changed and all fuel lines, so I am covered, good !
