Default Can't find central locking fuses

Greetings. I have an '82 928 automatic. I am trying to get my central locking system working again, and am having difficulty. Before I dig too deep I would like to check the two 400mA in-line fuses. From reading other posts, my understanding is that they should be located above/behind the fuse and relay panel. But I just cannot find them. I even unbolted the panel and moved it back and lowered it such that I had complete access behind it. And no sign of any in-line fuses. Has anyone else found them an another location? Maybe inside each door or something?

Thanks!

The '82 doesn't have vacuum actuated locks like previous models?

What model year was first to get the electric locking mechanisms?

the wires for these 2 fuses are red with a black stripe and are thinner than most of the other wires , they should have clips at the top edge of the CE panel to hold the 2 fuse holders,
sometimes the fuse holders fall behind the panel and mix in ,
thus making it difficult to find them

Mine was tucked in behind/above the big wire loom above the fuse panel

Finally found them! Holy cow, they were buried DEEP in the rats nest behind the fuse and relay panel.

Of course, that didn't fix the problem. I did replace 1 fuse. Now the lock motor runs when that side is turned with a key. But It does not run when turning the key on the opposite side. I have verified (at the connectors behind the door panel) that turning the key does activate the "switch" on the back side of the tumbler. But somehow this "signal" is not activating the opposite door's motor. I don't suppose anyone has a good electrical diagram of this motor-driven central locking system on an '82?

Thanks!

Make sure that the side that isn't working, that the **** surround isn't screwed on too tight. It should be just lightly screwed into place.

It's the larger black ring around the **** that my screw driver is pointing at.

Here is a thread with a bunch of info on the lock mechanism adjustments and some other things.

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-an-84-us.html

It should have everything you need to get the lock working correctly.

Thanks for the info!

I had glanced at the suggested thread earlier, but thought it didn't apply because I don't have the central locking button. So assumed it was a different system design. But I will take a close look at the relay described in that thread.

I don't believe the problem has to do with the **** surround, since I have all that removed right now while troubleshooting.

Still wishing I could find a good schematic for the 82's system.

Thanks!

The electronic locking system is almost identical throughout the years with the motors instead of solenoids anyway. The button only overrides the door lock internals.

Most of this info I accumulated through working on my 81, which does not have the button.

Inside of the thread there are bolded numbers 52-21 that correlate to the central lock section of the workshop manuals for the 1980+ electronic locks.

What most likely happened is they are out of adjustment and one of the motors has jammed or broken. Which is what happened to my locks.
