Default instrument cluster change

My 91 S4 has a relatively low mileage, the instrument cluster surface has a bit peeling off. I am thinking to swap to another used instrument cluster unit from a higher mileage S4, I am wondering if my original mileage can be shown in the changed one?
Cheers.

Nope....it is stored in the cluster and not easily changed. New zero miles clusters had a procedure using the stalks to set the odometer reading but one you exceeded a 1,000 miles or so you had a few minutes to get it right before it was frozen locked in.... you could use the internals of your old unit but that would require taking both apart.

Thanks James. I need to think about it before swapping because I really want to keep the original mileage.

Is that particularly difficult to accomplish James?

Good point, very likely could switch the module with the miles memory into a different cluster

You can swap over the pcb inside the instrument cluster, this will give you the new display panel but keep your car mileage and settings.

I did this on mine to change the speedo to Miles and Km ( i.e a UK unit) and keep the car mileage etc in KM.

Hi,
I have the same problem with a S4 - 1991. I found another instrument cluster and I want to keep my km. When you say to change the PCB, is it just the one on the back ? (easy)
because I see another one where the display is mounted and that one seems to be more difficult to change.
Thanks
