Petrol vent tank?

Petrol vent tank?
Hi guys, I had a really bad petrol smell and found it was comming from the rubber pipe that leaves the vent tank in the right rear wheel arch. The pipe was hanging in the wheel arch behind the plastic liner allowing fuel vapours to escape. The rubber pipe had rusty metal in the end so must have been attached to a metal pipe somewhere? I've blocked it of to stop the smell but my petrol tank isn't able to vent and the pressure in building up and escapes when I loosen the fuel cap. Dose anyone know where the pipe should go to? I am going to have another look at this tomorow, all help appreciated.

Mmmm, I've looked behind my rear splash guard and all that's there is the rubber pipe that comes out of the vent tank, it was just laying behind the splash guard venting fuel vapours, it really smelled bad so I blanked it of? I don't have a charcoal canister on my euro car so it dosent go to that. I've been searching and all I can find is it maybe vents behind the rear bumper???

You need to get onto sorting this out quickly as it's not only pressure that's the problem ... it's possible to collapse your tank as you use fuel up, from negative pressure.
Here's the PET diagram.

Ok, sorry for the rubbish pics it was hard to get a good picture in the cramped wheel arch!
The pipe comes out of the vent tank, goes down towards the bottom of the wheel well, it's the bent round into a bracket (you can't see the bracket in the pics) the bracket holds a small valve, then it comes out from the bracket and goes nowhere? I tried removing the bolt I use to cap it off but the petrol smell was awful!
Any ideas if this pipe should go anywhere.

Been thinking, the small plastic valve that looks just like an inline petrol filter could be knackered? I was able to blow and suck on the end of the pipe the valve is attatched to. I assume the tank should be able to suck in air past the valve but not blow it out causing a petrol smell? I'll remove the valve tomorow and investigate.

No canister up front on mine? I think because it's a euro car and is different set up to the USA cars.
I've unblocked the breather pipe and cleaned the valve today. The valve is the ball bearing one to stop petrol escaping when I roll it over!! I'll seewhat it's like now, if it still stinks of petrol when I'm driving it I might fit an extra non return valve to the breather so the tank can suck air in but not blow it out.

The front side of the right rear wheel arch should have the plastic ball valve - the tank vent line runs through it, so that when the car is inverted (on its roof), the ball closes and stops fuel leaking all over the crash site.
I'll see if I have pics somewhere
edit: don't seem to have a pic of it - it mounts vertically on the screw holes in your pic above, with the hoses to/from it making a neat u-shape at each end. Just orient it so that the ball would be closed when the car is upside down, and the rest should become apparent.

After a bit of searching, I found a picture of the valve.. (no 19 in the PET diagram posted above).

On a pre-charcoal filter car, the vent line runs directly from the valve round the fuel tank to the center of the back bumper, where it has the little rubber cone designed to create suction while the car's moving.
