BTW, for anyone contemplating a low-buck repair, the bearings can be accessed from the bottom of the engine with removal of the cradle, and loosen the timing belt. as long as the crank hasn't gone into the case, it could be 'saved' albeit with some loss of utility by R&R of the main bearings in situ.
Mind you, this is not a recommendation, but know that it can be done with a lift and a few hours of gritty work. May have to replace the oil pump depending on how much bearing metal was invested.
