Jim...I didn't say I believed him. My sense was that he looked at the Hagerty valuation tool - which certainly isn't indicative of what selling prices will actually be.

Someone pulled this thread out of the attic..

Not really an offer to buy, but last year on the way home from SITM, we stopped at a small town grocery to get some supplies, a local walking past my 928 stopped to look, asked a few questions, he didn't even know what it was, but in his mind, his evaluation was 100K.

Slightly off topic, but the only people who see my car currently are the UPS guy and the FEDEX guy.
LOL they always give me the beans because I'm such a slowpoke working on the car.
The prior FEDEX guy did offer me 5000, but at that time she was still in 1 piece and not quite so scary looking....
Interestingly, they old FEDEX fellow was quite the carspotter... he told me about Austin Healeys, BMWs, etc that he had delivered to, and he apparently kept a running tally of cars he hoped someday to go up for sale from his delivery route...

Had a previous owner contact me and offer $70K last spring.
I must be insane couldn't think of any other cars I'd rather have for that kind of money.

Sell, and buy two more.

a man offered me 5 k euros, last december. I told hime that the worst GTS in italy was sold recently for 5 times the price he was offering me.
"I'll give you ten".
"please , go away"
" twelve"
" not for sale, go away"
" 13 , not a cent more"
"You'd better run away"...

he walked away moaning something I don't care.

Years ago, I had a career which put me in the field a lot. I used to spot cars and knew where the cool ones resided. Nothing ever really panned out for me, but had great conversations.

My old UPS guy knew I wanted a Turbo Regal and found one, but it turned out to be a "hot air" 85, so I passed. I bet the UPS and FedEx drivers see all the good stuff, and often.

Yesterday took the 928 out for the first time in over a month out to Cambria just north of Pismo. My wife had commented that the 928 never gets noticed from her experience in the 911SC or 912E we had previously.

In Cambria a 997 driver waves as I drive by and as I'm about to park the 928 a guy waits for me to park and says I want to buy your car. My first response is that it's not for sale, but thanks! We chat a bit more about the car and his comment is that he rarely sees 928's. I agree as I rarely see them in my area. I'll never sell the 928. It's a keeper!

Hi! how long have you lived in Pismo? I love that place, and visit as often as possible, love the Oceano dunes also. been going since I was a child.

I take my greens to various local cruise nights. It's usally about 90% hot rods, muscle cars, and classic trucks (all of which I love to look at) and 10% misc. euro. the frogs get a fair amount of attention at these events, especially with the hood open ( holy cow a v8 Porsche? Did you build that ? What's the engine from?) and most don't know what model I have or miss the guessing year by at least 10 years. None of this bothers me, I think all car people are connected in some way and I sure as hell don't know much about a lot of cars. In this environment I've had a few offers, all really low. Occasionally someone will know exactly what the car is. Then say "these are getting expensive" .. So far no offers from them.
