Son ran car out of gas
My son has a 82 928, we replaced the fuel pump 2 years ago. So he comes home from work tonite and its out of gas. It got in the drive way, rear end is lower than the front due to sloping drive way. Wont start. We have gingerly tried to start it, we put 4 gallons in it but the rear is still lower than the front.
We didnt just lose another pump did we? I dont know if it matters but its raining
Put some starter fluid in the vacuum hose to the plenum and turns over fine.
where is the air flow plate?

All you need to do is cycle the fuel pump by turning the key a few times so the FI can build up some pressure.
You will hear the fuel pump's whine drop from a higher tone into a lower one as fuel pressure builds.
I ran my 81 out of gas and only had to build up some fuel pressure and away I went.
You may have sucked some crud into the fuel pump though if your intake screen is damaged and fried the pump as I don't know if you know what kind of shape it is in.

Before I messed with any of the pumps or relays, I would get the car on level ground and try it again. Also, add some more fuel. I had exactly the same problem with a low fuel tank on a sloped driveway - engine wouldn't start. Out of desperation, I let it roll down into the street and it fired right up. When I first got the car, I had to replace the fuel tank. I had to make 2 runs to the gas station to get enough gas for it to start up. The '82 has a rather large fuel reserve in the tank.
These guys are a lot smarter than me, but I like to start simple.
Good luck.
