Default Lock swap from gas cap to rear hatch?

86.5 5-speed 928

My main key works everywhere but the rear hatch. I never lock my gas cap, so I'm wondering if I can harvest the gas cap lock and install it in the hatch? I'm not sure if the lock internals are interchangeable. Any tips?

Try to find some one in you area that can re-key locks in Porsches. They should be able to make the rear hatch lock work with your existing key.

In a word no. The gas cap uses a different mechanism. Do a search but it's not that difficult to rekey your hatch lock to work with your key

You could take the lock apart and pull out all the tumblers leaving the barrel empty that way any key will work in it. but only you will know that. Or you can take abit more time and try to match up some of the old tumblers to fit in other slots to match your key really you only need one to work to make it lock.

If you buy the lock wafers (readily available on eBay or from keys4classics), take the lock assembly to your local locksmith. They'll drill it, disassemble, and then install the new wafers. I did it locally and it was $25.
