Shock absorbers '78 manual transmission
Does anybody have puctures of the shock absorbers that are meant to be on the manual gearbox if the '78? There are special bump pads onthe subframe that are supposed to catch the bumps I guess but my gearbox doesn't have the shock absorbers anymore. It seams like they are rubber pieces? I can't find them on the 1982 parts list either. What is the part #?

928 375 177 01 "Vibration Damper" Calls for two.
It's a little shock absorber like are on the engine for the early cars. They were removed from the cars at some point like late '79, IIRC. The engine shocks were removed later when they went to the liquid-filled, "hydraulic" motor mounts.
I'd leave them off.

From the picture I conclude that there should be a hole in the subframe (the extra pads?) to fix the bottom of the damper. There should also be two threaded holes in the gearbox to fix the upper bracket. I don't remember the hole in the extra pad of the subframe and also not the two threadedholes in the gearbox. I'll chexk next week when I'll see the car again. Looking at the pictures of putting in my transmission I think I can see the holes.
See picture of the subframe on the car. Notice the missing bolts for the upper reaction arms. There in now. I lowered the subframe again.

Yeah, there are the two holes to mount the shock. Looking at the PET I can see where the threaded end goes into the crossmember. What I don't see are rubber bushings and washers I expected. Something like the way the rear upper arms mount.

Hi Roger, glad ou joined the discussion. Please explain your remark. Is the shock absorber useful in any way? Do you stock them and the brackets 928 375 085 00 and 928 375 086 00? Used brackets and new shocks? Or should I just leave it without them.

I was referring to the engine shock absorber when I realized you were talking about the transmission shock.
From what I see it was only fitted to the 78 cars with the different transmission mounts and deleted in 79 when they changed to the different mounts.
I cannot check if Porsche has any in stock until tomorrow. They are listed at $52 which tells me two things - they have them in stock but they are 30 years old or no stock as the price has not changed in ages.
I can check the brackets tomorrow for you. If my car was originally fitted with them I would want them. Does your car have the two different transmission mounts?
If Mark has them I would grab them quick.

IIRR mounting to subfare is by two concave washers and some rubber in between.
Reason for delete was that battery box was mounted to body instead of gearbox. That's also reason why left side mount was changed to smaller design and same mount was used on both sides. Large mount was needed to support very heavy battery. Especially M197 stronger 88Ah long battery.

Terrible mobile phone picture is from February 1977 parts catalogue. Stop washer is 928 375 167 01 and rubber stop is 928 375 166 02. I'd be very surprised if they both are still available.
