I was looking for a manual '95 GTS for well over 3 years and eventually settled for a manual '94 black/black - really no complaints - just so few manuals available.

I still had to fly/drive from Phoenix to Evansville, Indiana to Brian Buxton's place to see & buy it. Had previously looked at cars all over the west.

I had no idea what I was doing when I bought her other than I always thought the 928 was the coolest car ever. I just happened to have a little spare money and randomly placed a bid on eBay. Woke up the next morning to find out I won.

At the time my tool box consisted of a couple of screw drivers, rusted SAE sockets, ancient pliers and a few hammers. I had never heard of Rennlist.

It's been a great 5 years learning, working and driving. Torque Tube job is the most memorable to date.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I waited 5 years to find "The Right" 928 and couldn't be happier. I am getting much more comfortable now working on various systems and it is exactly what I expected.

Great thread, I count myself very lucky. I only researched for maybe a month and read RL a lot during that time. Found a low 25k car that still to this day seems like a great example of a non-molested time capsule. I know it could have gone the other way very easily since I knew so little. Was petrified for the first year about working on something I knew so little about but now it doesn't intimidate me quite so much anymore. I find stupid excuses to go out to the five degree pole barn just to look at it under he cover. God I hate winter..

This is my 3rd 928. I sold a 1983 Euro 5 sp to purchase this Koenig from my friend who stopped driving it because he had bought a Ferrari 430. I had fallen in love with it the moment he brought it from Europe where it was put together.

I didn't exactly settle, I saw it, and wanted it. To be Honest, I knew nothing of the 928 at the time. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, yes , it was a love at first sight moment.
Oh, and I found rennlist while doing a google search of Porsche 928.
After three years now, the rennlist 928 community has been my drive for the love of this car.
Thank you, all!.

Default I got better than my dream car.

I had been casually looking for a 5-speed S4 for nearly 2 years with no luck on anything local and nothing tempting enough to travel for. My must haves were 5-speed, limited slip and no body work required. Originally I wanted black with black/tan interior.

Then a red '89 GT popped up only 130 miles away for an asking price I could afford. I never dreamed a GT would be in my budget, so I was willing to compromise on my prefered color scheme to get a GT. The price I got it for and its condition I would have been a fool not to buy it based simply on it not being my favorite color. Now that I own a red one I like it better than black. Win/win.

I'd been looking for a 928 for years settling on Corvettes in the meantime. Found my 1986.5 5-speed in Craigslist about five years ago. When I saw it, I knew this was the one I wanted. Purchased from the original owner. These cars are a work of art and, everytime I drive it, I'm reminded of why I bought it!

I hear ya' on the whole color thing. The first 928 I drove was a black 84, which I drove in 1987. It was the first stick shift car I drove, and fun.

When I bought my own sports car of a different breed, I bought a black car, even though I had fallen in love w/ bright red. Black looked so good!!

I grew to hate the constant care of black paint, and while I still have that car over 25 years later, I bought the same car in red, then another in a dark red, then another black one... I sold the 2nd black one, but have the others.

But for my 928, it's black, and I feel like a kid again

BTW, colors like Gray and Charcoal are the best IMO from an overall maintenance perspective. I had a gunmetal gray car for about 15 years, loved it, and miss it dearly. If only the guy who bought it cared for it like I had, I'd make an offer to buy back

Cool!

I always found it interesting the Corvette was compared with the 944 series more than 928, but either are formidable counters to one another.

I wanted an 89 5 speed in Guards Red/Cashmere, but gave up after a 12 month search. I found an 88 auto in the correct color scheme for a decent price. I am about 95% completed with just a few more issues to make it the best I can.
